One man who fell short at UFC 313 will not be hanging up his gloves. Fans were surprised to see Jalin Turner inform media members that he will be retiring following his first-round submission defeat to Ignacio Bahamondes. While Turner told John Morgan that he’d been mulling over retirement since a UFC 300 loss to Renato Moicano, one defeated fighter on the UFC 313 doesn’t plan to follow suit.

Now that the dust has settled on Alex Pereira’s UFC 313 title loss, one UFC Hall of Famer has spoken out. Pereira looked to have his fourth successful defense of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Standing in his way was Ankalaev, who entered with just one pro MMA loss on his resume. “Poatan” never truly felt comfortable fighting off his back foot. Ankalaev gave Pereira good reason to move backwards, as he rocked him with a huge punch at the end of round two.

Tom Aspinall has reacted to Alex Pereira’s UFC 313 loss. As UFC 313 approached, many were wondering if UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones would forgo a title unification bout against interim titleholder Tom Aspinall in favor of a showdown with “Poatan.” Pereira ended up losing the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, putting a halt to that idea.

Ignacio Bahamondes feels gutted following Jalin Turner’s retirement announcement. Bahamondes shared the Octagon with Turner on the main card of UFC 313 this past Saturday. Turner was trapped in a triangle choke and he tapped out in the opening frame. After the fight, Turner told media members at Octagon side that he has decided to retire. He told John Morgan that he first considered retirement when he was stopped by Renato Moicano at UFC 300.

Daniel Cormier believes he knows how Magomed Ankalaev found success in the standup against Alex Pereira. Ankalaev is the newly-minted UFC Light Heavyweight Champion following UFC 313. He defeated Pereira via unanimous decision inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ankalaev was able to make “Poatan” hesitate throughout the fight. This became clear following the end of round two, which saw Ankalaev land a punch that sent Pereira into the Octagon cage.

Don’t expect Justin Gaethje to be Dustin Poirier’s retirement fight. Gaethje was ready to throw leather with Dan Hooker at UFC 313 this past Saturday, but Hooker’s hand injury forced him out of action. Rafael Fiziev stepped up in an effort to avenge his 2023 loss to “The Highlight.” This was another fun fight between the two, and it went the distance just as their first encounter did. Gaethje took a unanimous decision this time, and both men once again nabbed “Fight of the Night” honors.

He was able to defeat Alex Pereira in a contest that, in the eyes of many, didn’t quite live up to the hype. Alas, Ankalaev went out there and did his job, which is all you can really ask for.

The Octagon moved to T-Mobile Arena for tonight’s UFC 313 pay-per-view event, and four fighters wound up taking home performance bonuses. The fight card was headlined by a light heavyweight title bout featuring Alex Pereira taking on Magomed Ankalaev. The highly anticipated main event resulted in a tightly contested back and forth affair. Alex Pereira got off to a strong start, but Magomed Ankalaev became more and more confident as the fight went on and ended up rocking ‘Poatan’ in the final seconds of the second round. While Pereira was able to keep things competitive and avoid being taken down, the constant pressure and aggression of the challenger proved to be the difference and he walked away with a unanimous decision win.

Ruffy (12-1 MMA) had gone a perfect 2-0 since joining the UFC in May of last year and many pundits have him pegged as a future champion. ‘One Shot’ had most previously competed at November’s UFC 309 event, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over James Llontop. The Brazilian made his Octagon debut at UFC 301, scoring a first-round finish over Jamie Mullarkey.
