In equal measure, though, he’s also widely considered to be the greatest of all time in the world of mixed martial arts. So, as you can imagine, there are some mixed feelings about him within the community.

Could Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones finally fight for the UFC heavyweight title soon? Well, according to some recent comments from Aspinall, it’s possible. Jones is the former UFC light heavyweight champ, and is considered one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. In 2023, after years of plotting, he finally moved up to heavyweight, and claimed the vacant belt with a quick win over Ciryl Gane. Unfortunately, Jones has been extremely inactive as heavyweight champ. He has fought just once since winning the belt, battering a shopworn Stipe Miocic to a TKO win last November.

While Jones has been mostly dominant throughout his Hall of Fame worthy career, he did have close encounters with some surprising names.

Aspinall has been waiting for his UFC heavyweight title unification bout since knocking out Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 back in Nov. 2023. While Jones has successfully defended the main heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic, many are wondering if a unification bout between him and Aspinall will ever materialize.

With the passage of time comes more and more interest in the idea of this contest happening. Unfortunately, up to this point, we haven’t heard a whole lot about the fight actually getting made. Tom seems to be as eager as anyone to get it over the finish line, but the same can’t be said for Jones.

Tom Aspinall was last seen in the cage last summer in Manchester, where he scored a first-round knockout win over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. That night, the interim champion called for a title unification with the legendary Jon Jones. While the 37-year-old turned down Aspinall’s offer at first, he’s currently in discussions with the UFC to make the bout.

His team seems to be focused on building his image on social media and for the most part, that seems to be working. Alas, while he did defeat Alex Pereira, the expectation is that we’ll see a rematch sooner rather than later.

As UFC 313 approached, many were wondering if UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones would forgo a title unification bout against interim titleholder Tom Aspinall in favor of a showdown with “Poatan.” Pereira ended up losing the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, putting a halt to that idea.
