While the former ‘BMF’ titleholder was coming off a brutal stoppage defeat, it didn’t look that way on Saturday.

UFC light-heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev is down for a rematch against Alex Pereira. The Russian is fresh off his return to the octagon in the main event of UFC 313 on Saturday night. There, Magomed Ankalaev finally challenged Alex Pereira for light-heavyweight gold. Riding a 13-fight unbeaten streak, the title shot was his second. Back in December 2022, Ankalaev famously fought to a draw against Jan Blachowicz in a bid for the vacant light-heavyweight title.

Stepping up on short notice, Rafael Fiziev again met Justin Gaethje. At UFC 286 in early 2023, the former interim lightweight champion handed ‘Ataman’ a close unanimous decision loss. Despite entering the bout on just two weeks’ notice, Fiziev was confident.

Joe Rogan is impressed by how well Magomed Ankalaev performed against Alex Pereira. Fans were surprised by Ankalaev’s ability to keep Pereira moving backwards. “Poatan” is used to marching forward and utilizing his striking to break his opponents down. While Pereira got in his share of kicks, he never look comfortable on the feet. This was evident at the end of the second round when a clean punch from Ankalaev sent Pereira stumbling back into the cage.

In the main event, Alex Pereira was defending his light heavyweight title against Magomed Ankalaev. The co-main event saw a pivotal lightweight bout go down as Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev in a rematch.
