He went one-on-one with Kazula Vargas. Paddy came across as an absolute star by the end of the night, scoring a first-round submission finish via rear-naked choke.

Dana White has dubbed Paddy Pimblett as “the real deal” following his first round finish at UFC London, comparing him to Sean O’Malley. Pimblett (18-3 MMA) made his sophomore Octagon appearance this evening against fellow lightweight fighter Kazula Vargas (12-5 MMA). The Liverpool native was looking to cement his status as one of the promotions top budding stars and did so in empathic fashion by scoring another first round victory.

The Octagon returned to England for today’s UFC London event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Alexander Volkov vs. Tom Aspinall. The highly anticipated heavyweight main event proved to be a coming out party for Tom Aspinall. The Manchester native made things look easy against his Russian opponent earning a first round submission victory. Aspinall was able to secure a straight arm lock shortly after the midway point of the opening round, which forced Volkov to tapout.

Pimblett (18-3 MMA) made good on his Octagon debut in September of 2021, where he scored a first round TKO victory over Luigi Vendramini. The Liverpool native was looking to cement his status as one of the promotions top budding stars in his sophomore appearance this evening.

Volkov (34-9 MMA), a former Bellator heavyweight champion, was last seen in action at UFC 267 where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Marcin Tybura. That win was preceded by decision loss to Ciryl Gane.

Paddy Pimblett and Ilia Topuria have different reasons as to why they had a skirmish yesterday in London. On Tuesday at check-in day, Pimblett threw a hand sanitizer bottle at the head of Topuria, and punches were thrown. No one really knew why it happened but according to ‘The Baddy’ he said Topuria was the one who went at him so he reacted with throwing the hand sanitizer bottle. The Brit said he wasn’t going to risk his fight getting called off by punching him so throwing the bottle made the most sense.
