The Octagon returned to England for today’s UFC London event, a fifteen-biout fight card headlined by Tom Aspinall vs. Marcin Tybura. The highly anticipated heavyweight main event proved to be a short-lived affair. Tom Aspinall was able to score an early knockdown thanks to a perfectly timed right hand. From there, the Manchester native proceeded to deliver some heavy ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call a stop to the action. It was a perfect fight for Aspinall, and one that puts him right back in the heavyweight title picture.

Heavyweight champion Jon Jones has responded after being called out by Tom Aspinall this afternoon at UFC London. Aspinall (13-3 MMA) was returning to action for the first time in twelve months this afternoon at the O2 Arena, squaring off with fellow heavyweight contender Marcin Tybura. The Manchester native had of course suffered a knee injury which required surgery in his most previous effort against Curtis Blaydes last July. That disappointing setback had snapped Aspinall’s eight-fight winning streak, which included five straight wins inside of the Octagon.

Bassil Hafez knew he was getting close to the UFC and was expecting something short notice to come up. Hafez was the reigning Fury FC welterweight champion and was coming off a knockout win over Evan Cutts to win the belt back in February. Since then, he had been training and when he got the call to step up on short notice at UFC Vegas 77 against Jack Della Maddalena, he jumped on it.

Colby Covington has a reason for why he hasn’t fought since March of 2022. Covington last fought back at UFC 272 when he defeated Jorge Masvidal by decision. Since then, ‘Chaos’ claims he has been trying to get a fight but no one has wanted to fight him, which is why he has been off for over a year and a half. However, according to Covington, he says he was offered both Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev but they both turned him down.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rampage Jackson is again targeting Darill Schoonover. The former titleholder was last seen at Bellator 237 against Fedor Emelianenko. In the December 2019 bout, Rampage Jackson suffered a first-round knockout loss. That fight was the last on his Bellator contract, and the promotion declined to re-sign him after the defeat.

Heading into the matchup, the Scouser had a massive amount of hype riding multiple finish victories in the promotion. However, ‘Flash’ gave him a much tougher fight than expected late last year.

Former interim UFC featherweight title challenger Josh Emmett plans to make his next fight his last. ‘The Fighting Falmer’ has been out of the cage since a clash with Ilia Topuria last month at UFC Jacksonville. ‘El Matador’ entered the matchup calling for a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski, and he fought like it. In the end, Ilia Topuria turned in a historic win last month against the longtime contender.

Paddy Pimblett is sharing that he would love to do a season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ with Ilia Topuria. Pimblett (20-3 MMA) last fought in the Octagon in December of 2022 at UFC 282 where he defeated Jared Gordon (19-6 MMA) by unanimous decision.

Colby Covington is casting doubt on Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa actually happening at UFC 294. It was earlier this week that Costa took to ‘Twitter’ relaying the news that his fight with Chimaev was on – this before anything was announced by the UFC.

Conor McGregor’s manager has provided an update on his fighters USADA situation. Opposing TUF 31 coaches Conor McGregor (22-6 MMA) and Michael Chandler were expected to fight following the filming of  ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, which will continue to air on ESPN until its finale August 15th.

Dricus du Plessis has explained why he opted to walk away from Israel Adesanya during their intense showdown at UFC 290. Following his win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 290, Dricus du Plessis was confronted by Israel Adesanya in the Octagon. The encounter featured plenty of slurs coming from Adesanya, some of them being of a racial nature. It seemed as if du Plessis wasn’t too interested in engaging with the champion, preferring to wait until he gets in the cage with him again before letting his fists do the talking.

Colby Covington has taken a shot at Jon Jones ahead of his return to the Octagon at UFC 295 in November. It’s safe to say that Colby Covington is a controversial character. The man known as ‘Chaos’ hasn’t been seen inside the Octagon for over a year, dating back to his win over Jorge Masvidal. Despite that, the expectation is that he will challenge Leon Edwards for the UFC welterweight championship later this year.

Chris Duncan is ready to fight back in London. Duncan hails from Scotland and got to make his UFC debut last March at UFC 286, where he picked up a split decision win over Omar Morales. It was a frustrating fight for Duncan as he wants to be known as an exciting fighter, but he’s happy he got the win and is able to return rather quickly.
