Masvidal has long been expected to get the next shot at UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Masvidal, meanwhile, says “Chaos” was cancer in the gym and the former interim welterweight champion was actually fired from ATT.

UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal says he could fight Nate Diaz at UFC 251 if Kamaru Usman won’t agree to terms on a title fight. After Masvidal defeated Diaz via TKO at UFC 244 last November, it was assumed that he would be next in line to fight Usman for the title. However, Masvidal hasn’t fought in nearly six months now as the UFC has struggled to come together on the financial terms of the Usman fight. According to Masvidal in a new interview with ESPNs’ Ariel Helwani, he said Usman is asking the UFC for too much money, putting a potential fight at risk.

Masvidal and Diaz met back at UFC 244 in November 2019, and the fight ended in controversial fashion as the cageside doctor stopped the fight due to cuts, resulting in a TKO win over Masvidal. The stoppage was called into question by several MMA veterans including long-time referee Big John McCarthy, and because of the controversy there has always been the chance the UFC could run a rematch between the two.

Both Jones and Diaz reacted negatively to McGregor’s assessment of the current MMA GOAT landscape. ‘Bones’ took the opportunity to remind the Irishman that he is no longer a UFC champion and thus had no right to be ranked above him in the standings.

Covington sounded off on Masvidal in a recent episode of Submission Radio, scolding his former ally for giving alcohol to a man he believes has a drinking problem.

Fighters such as Henry Cejudo and Colby Covington have been criticized for intentionally playing up to the camera and changing their personality to gain notoriety. The “BMF” winner and rising welterweight star, Masvidal has been very critical of fighters’ media behavior. He previously called out Covington for putting on a performance despite being the “most sensitive guy in the UFC.” He also accused his former opponent Ben Askren of playing up to the camera. Now, “Gamebred” is calling out Kamaru Usman for the same behavior.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was expected to fight Tony Ferguson in the main event, but due to travel restrictions, Nurmagomedov is currently stuck in Russia and will likely not fight.
