The 170-pound athletes are expected to face off in a welterweight title fight during International Fight Week this summer. In the run-up, both fighters have remained critical of each other. Their verbal conflict almost got physical during a Super Bowl media day in Miami this month. Usman goaded Masvidal to “do something,” but the pair were eventually separated by bystanders. Now “The Nigerian Nightmare” is adding fuel to the fire by accusing Masvidal of being a “clown,” and a sellout.

Covington and Masvidal were friends for years and trained together at American Top Team while moving up the ladder in the UFC. But in the last few years, the pair have developed a heated rivalry, especially after Covington became a star in the UFC and started to talk smack about his fellow fighters at American Top Team, which Masvidal did not like.

UFC president Dana White said the incident forced him to prematurely announce plans to book a welterweight title bout between champion Usman and Masvidal for International Fight Week in July.

The two were doing radio shows to talk about what’s next for them when they saw each other and got into a verbal altercation. Immediately, it went all over social media and UFC president Dana White said he was not a fan of it. For Edwards, he agrees with White and says it makes MMA and the UFC look fake like the WWE.
