UFC welterweight contender Ian Garry won’t be training with Leon Edwards any time soon. ‘The Future’ has been out of action since a unanimous decision win over Neil Magny in August. That victory was Ian Garry’s 13th in a row, and he made it clear post-fight that he wasn’t done. Now booked to face Vicente Luque in December at UFC 296, his title aspirations are on the line.

Ian Machado Garry has responded to Dillon Danis calling him out. Although Danis is set to box Logan Paul on Oct. 14, he is an MMA fighter who is under contract with Bellator. Yet, with the future of the promotion uncertain, Danis says if Bellator folds he wants to sign with the UFC and mentioned Ian Machado Garry as an easy opponent for him.

Garry and Luque are both in the top 15, so the fight does make sense as the winner will get another big fight next time out. Yet, some were surprised that they are fighting one another as they are teammates. Garry even told BJPENN.com after his win over Magny that he wanted to avoid fighting his teammates.

The UFC’s year-end pay-per-view looks to be a crucial night for the welterweight division. In the main event of UFC 296, Leon Edwards puts his welterweight gold on the line against Colby Covington. Also featured on the card will be a 170-pound tilt between Stephen Thompson and Shavkat Rakhmonov. Now, UFC CEO Dana White has announced that Luque vs. Garry has been added to the card.

He defeated Israel Adesanya via unanimous decision to capture the UFC middleweight championship. In doing so, he produced one of the biggest upsets in the history of mixed martial arts. It was the kind of win that sent shockwaves through the sport and, as you can imagine, there are plenty of opinions flying around.

With that, some teammates never want to fight one another, but Garry doesn’t think that will be an issue.
