After Colby Covington beat Robbie Lawler at UFC Newark, all signs pointed to him fighting Kamaru Usman next for the welterweight title. Even UFC president, Dana White said that fight would be next. Yet,  the negotiations between the two reportedly hit a standstill and whether or not they fight is now up in the air. With that said, Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman continue to trade shots over social media.

Earlier today, ESPN reported that the much discussed welterweight title fight between champ Kamaru Usman and challenger Colby Covington, expected to occur at UFC 244 in November, is in jeopardy. The Kamaru Usman v Colby Covington 170 title fight is far from done, multiple sources say. In fact, negotiations have hit a snag and UFC is now looking at other options, sources say. Those options include a different welterweight title fight and/or a different main event.

When Colby Covington defeated Robbie Lawler earlier this summer, he cemented himself as the next man in line for UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. In the subsequent weeks, the bout was linked to the upcoming UFC 244 card, scheduled for November 2 in Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, it now sounds as though this bout in jeopardy. According to ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani, negotiations for this Usman vs. Covington fight have hit a snag, and the UFC is now considering other options.

The announcement comes from Brazilian news outlet Combate, who reported this afternoon that Kamaru Usman will square off with Colby Covington at UFC 244 on November 2 at Madison Square Garden.

Covington served as a guest on the MMA Tonight show hosted by former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate and Ryan McKinnell. Things got ugly as Covington accused Tate of talking behind his back. McKinnell intervened, firing off verbal jabs on the UFC Newark ratings and Covington called the pair “jobbers.”

The First Family was in attendance for Covington’s main event showdown with former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, and even visited him in his locker room in the moments before his fight.

But, where that has left his best friend and teammate, in Jorge Masvidal is unknown. “Gamebred” made it clear he would only fight for the title or Conor McGregor next, but White shut that down. Yet, Covington believes that actually makes sense for him to fight Usman and Masvidal to fight McGregor.

In a video posted to Instagram, Perry and his wife “reenacted” Covington’s recent victory over Robbie Lawler, accusing the former interim champion of having “pool noodle punches.”
