Anderson Silva reacts following victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva reacted following his split decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Mexico. Silva stepped back into the boxing ring for the first fight since 2005 when he took on Chavez Jr. at the “Tribute to the Kings” event at Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico. Considering Silva is now 46 years old and was cut by the UFC after three straight losses to Uriah Hall, Jared Cannonier, and Israel Adesanya, seeing him enter the boxing ring for the first time in 16 years and take out a veteran like Chavez Jr. — who is a decade younger and who has 60 professional boxing matches — is actually quite a feather in Silva’s cap.
UFC 264 main card is now official, Stephen Thompson vs. Gilbert Burns serves as co-headliner

The upcoming five-fight UFC 264 main card is now official, and welterweights Stephen Thompson and Gilbert Burns serve as the co-headliner. UFC 264 takes place on July 10 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event of the evening is a five-round lightweight trilogy bout between bitter rivals Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Also on the main card is a welterweight bout between Thompson and Burns, which could very well serve as a potential No. 1 contender fight at 170lbs. UFC featherweight Dan Ige issued a statement following his loss to The Korean Zombie at UFC Vegas 29, saying that “I’ll be back.” Ige was able to make it the full 25 minutes with The Korean Zombie, but he was outstruck and outwrestled for the majority of the fight and lost a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards at the end of the five rounds. Following the fight, Ige took to his social media where he issued a statement assuring his fans that he’s doing fine and that he’ll be back.

The highly anticipated featherweight main event proved to be a thrilling twenty-five minute affair. ‘TKZ’ was able to get the better of the Hawaiian in the early rounds, even dropping Ige with a right hand in round two. UFC lightweight Luis Pena was arrested by Florida Police on Friday and charged with robbery by sudden snatching, battery and criminal mischief. According to online records, Pena (9-3 MMA), was picked up by the Coral Spring Police Department on an extradition warrant issued by a police department in another county in Florida. According to a police spokesperson, the former TUF 27 contestant was picked up following an anonymous tip (via MMA Fighting).

Anderson Silva has issued a statement after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. missed weight for their boxing match on Saturday night in Mexico. Silva, who is set for his first fight since his UFC release, was set to cut down to 182lbs to face Chavez Jr. who normally competes around the 160-175lbs mark. Silva made the weight while Chavez Jr. came in 2.4 pounds heavy. According to the Mexican, he thought the bout was taking place at 185lbs due to the fact that was the weight Silva fought at in the UFC. Despite his claim, Chavez Jr. still came in heavy and forfeited $100,000 to Silva for the weight miss.
