Today’s UFC Long Island event features a key women’s flyweight contest between former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy. Tate (19-8 MMA) decided to make the drop to flyweight following her unanimous decision loss to Ketlen Vieira in November of 2021. That loss was preceded by a TKO victory over fellow veteran Marion Reneau.

The Octagon returns to New York for today’s UFC Long Island event, a thirteen-bout fight card headlined by Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez. Ortega (15-2 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since suffering a unanimous decision loss to reigning featherweight kingpin Alex Volkanovki at UFC 266. That setback was preceded by a decision win over The Korean Zombie in October of 2020.

Derek Brunson believes Alex Pereira will defeat Israel Adesanya to become the new UFC middleweight champion. After Pereira knocked out Sean Strickland at UFC 276 and Israel Adesanya defended his belt with a decision win over Jared Cannonier on the same card, it was clear that fight would be next. They fought twice in kickboxing with Pereira winning both, including one by KO.

After that, Onama says a couple of fighters turned him down before Garrett Armfield – who he fought as an amateur – agreed to take the fight which Onama is grateful for.

Cain Velasquez has been denied bail again. Velasquez appeared in the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose on Monday for a hearing during which Judge Shelyna Brown denied a motion for bail. Yet, for the third time, his bail was denied, MMAJunkie first learned through court documents.
A slated welterweight matchup has been scratched from UFC 277

For the second straight day, a fight at UFC 277 has been scratched due to an injury. Yesterday, BJPENN.com reported that Diego Ferreira was forced out of his lightweight bout against Drakkar Klose. Now, sources tell BJPENN.com that Ferreira’s teammate in Ramiz Brahimaj has also been forced out of his UFC 277 fight against Michael Morales due to an undisclosed injury. The promotion is searching for a replacement for Morales, sources say.
