Charles Oliveira believes referee Keith Peterson missed several fouls in his UFC 309 scrap with Michael Chandler. Oliveira had his way with Chandler in their rematch, for the most part. Things nearly went off the rails for “do Bronx” in the final round. After finding himself on the canvas after a barrage of strikes from Chandler, Oliveira was hit in the back of the head several times.

The Octagon returned to Madison Sqaure Garden for tonight’s UFC 309 event, and five fighters wound up taking home $50k bonuses. The fight card was headlined by a heavyweight title bout featuring Jon Jones taking on former champion Stipe Miocic. The contest proved to be another dominant performance from the greatest MMA fighter of all time in Jon Jones. ‘Bones’ nearly finished Stipe Miocic in the opening round with some brutal elbows, but the former champ showcased his heart to survive the initial onslaught. While Miocic did better in round two, it was still clearly Jon’s fight to lose. Then, in round three, ‘Bones’ landed a spinning back kick that put Miocic down for good. Some follow up ground and pound was all Jones needed to end the fight.

Chandler and Oliveira were competing for a second time this evening at Madison Square Garden. There, he met newly crowned champion Ilia Topuria, who won the gold from Alexander Volkanovski in February.

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is interested in facing Alexander Volkanovski next. ‘Do Bronx’ hasn’t appeared in the cage since a split-decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 in April. That defeat prevented the Brazilian from earning a rematch with lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, who defeated him back in October 2022. Since then, Charles Oliveira hasn’t booked a return to the cage.

Charles Oliveira’s coach believes there is a good case to make for “do Bronx” receiving the next UFC Lightweight Championship opportunity against Islam Makhachev. Oliveira is coming off a split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 back in April. Tsarukyan is currently serving a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a fan altercation.

Roman Shpigel won an Oliveira VIP experience with a $95,000 bid during soccer star Neymar Jr.’s fundraiser and auction in Brazil. Shpigel will be a part of Oliveira’s camp at Chute Boxe Diego Lima and then attend the former titleholder’s fight week preparations and his event booking.
