Waterson-Gomez shared the Octagon with Marina Rodriguez on the main card of UFC Vegas 79 inside the UFC Apex on September 23. It was a rough and bloody night for Waterson-Gomez, who was battered en route to a second-round TKO loss. Fan footage captured an emotional Waterson-Gomez being consoled by her close friend Rashad Evans.

Michelle Waterson-Gomez is set for the first rematch of her carer. Waterson-Gomez is set to take on Marina Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 79, as the two fought back in May of 2021. The fight was put together on short notice and was a five-round main event at 125lbs.

Shortly after that, they were booked to fight at UFC 274 on May 7 but apparently, that won’t be happening as Waterson took to social media to reveal she’s dealing with a serious injury.

The Brazilian was 3-1-2 in the UFC and her lone loss was a controversial split decision to Carla Esparza. Waterson, meanwhile, returned to the win column last September with a split decision win over Angela Hill.

Rodriguez put forth an exceptional performance in the main event of UFC Vegas 26 on Saturday night as she outpointed Waterson for five rounds to take home a unanimous decision victory. Rodriguez showed off her world-class Muay Thai skills as she was also able to go a full, hard 25 minutes for the first time in her UFC career. Overall, it was a fantastic showing by Rodriguez, and even though the fight took place up a weight class at 125lbs, it was still a big win that should help her move up the women’s strawweight rankings, too.

The highly anticipated women’s flyweight main event proved to be a five-round war, with Rodriguez ultimately emerging victorious by way of unanimous decision (49-46 x2, 48-47).

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 26 took place on Friday in Las Vegas and we saw several weight misses and fights get canceled. The headliners for this card, Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson, both made weight, with each fighter coming in under the 126lbs non-title limit for the five-round main event. While the main event is official, however, there were a number of other bouts that were affected by weight misses on the card, with two fights needing to get scratched.
