UFC postpones tonight's UFC 303 press conference in Dublin

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that tonight’s scheduled UFC 303 press conference in Dublin has been postponed. Later this month, Conor McGregor is scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon. He’ll do so against Michael Chandler, in a bout that has been over a year in the making. The two will battle it out in the main event of UFC 303, with the promotion recently announcing that a press conference would take place in Dublin, Ireland on Monday, June 3 as part of the build-up.

Islam Makhachev has a preference for his next fight following UFC 302, but he’s willing to do whatever is asked of him. Makhachev once again showed off his elite traits in the main event of UFC 302. The 155-pound king mixed it up with Dustin Poirier inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey this past Saturday night. It was a quality effort from “The Diamond,” who was able to rough up Makhachev at certain points in the fight. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough as Makhachev forced Poirier to tap out via D’Arce choke in the final round to remain the lightweight champion.

In the main event of UFC 302, Islam Makhachev submitted Dustin Poirier to retain the UFC lightweight championship. It was a pretty incredible fight between two men who put it all on the line. However, despite his big win, UFC president Dana White made it crystal clear that he doesn’t believe Makhachev is the #1 pound for pound fighter in the promotion.

Dustin Poirier got a bit emotional during his backstage interview with Megan Olivi following UFC 302. “The Diamond” fell just short in what may have been his final opportunity at undisputed UFC gold this past Saturday. Poirier challenged Islam Makhachev for the UFC Lightweight Championship inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Poirier found success with his takedown defense and in the standup, but he couldn’t seal the deal as Makhachev sunk in a D’Arce Choke in the final round to retain his 155-pound hardware.

He submitted him in the fifth and final round to retain his UFC lightweight championship. Of course, Islam’s achievement was incredible, but it was made even better by the fact that Khabib Nurmagomedov was there in his corner.

UFC CEO Dana White believes judge Dave Tirelli has no business judging UFC fights. Tirelli was at the center of controversy for his judging during the UFC 302 card this past Saturday. Two fights put Tirelli under the microscope. First, there was his scorecard for the preliminary bout between Andre Lima and Mitch Raposo. While judges Adrian Castro and Eric Colon both saw the fight 30-27 in favor of Lima, Tirelli somehow scored the bout 29-28 in favor of Raposo.

UFC CEO Dana White has bashed those who believe that Islam Makhachev should be considered the pound-for-pound best fighter in MMA when Jon Jones remains active. Makhachev made his third successful UFC Lightweight Championship defense against Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 302, but it wasn’t easy. Poirier showed solid takedown defense and was able to do some damage on the 155-pound champion. In the end, Makhachev submitted Poirier in the fifth round via D’Arce choke.

The Octagon returned to New Jersey for tonight’s UFC 302 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier. The highly anticipated lightweight title fight resulted in a thrilling back and forth affair. Islam Makhachev was able to get off to a strong start in the opening round, dominating Dustin Poirier on the canvas. However, ‘The Diamond’ had a much better second frame and was able to gain some confidence. Round three resulted in another good round for Makhachev, as he was once again able to get the fight to the floor. Then, in round four, ‘The Diamond’ was able to find success on the feet, opening up a bad cut on the reigning champ. Despite his best efforts, Poirier wound up getting taken down in the fifth and final round, which allowed Islam to lock up a fight-ending d’arce choke submission (see that here).
