The Australian will enter his first title fight riding a 17-fight winning streak, last handing Gilbert Burns a knockout loss last year in Miami. Joe Rogan has a stunning outlook for a potential Islam Makhachev vs. Ilia Topuria fight. When Dana White announced that Topuria is vacating the UFC Featherweight Championship, many thought “El Matador” would get an immediate crack at Makhachev’s lightweight gold. Ariel Helwani even reported that the UFC was looking to book the matchup possibly as early as International Fight Week. White told reporters that Makhachev has other options on the table and that the Topuria fight wasn’t a lock.

Fans were surprised by Ankalaev’s ability to keep Pereira moving backwards. “Poatan” is used to marching forward and utilizing his striking to break his opponents down. While Pereira got in his share of kicks, he never look comfortable on the feet. This was evident at the end of the second round when a clean punch from Ankalaev sent Pereira stumbling back into the cage.
