Oscar De La Hoya says he is ‘definitely going to sue for defamation’ after his recent altercation with Canelo Alvarez. It was this past Wednesday, at the pre-fight press conference for Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia, that boxing legend, now promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, took to the podium and addressed Canelo, demanding respect for their past differences.

This Saturday night in Las Vegas, the undisputed super-middleweight champion will return to the ring. Standing opposite the dominant Canelo Alvarez will be the rising prospect, Jaime Munguia. The undefeated Mexican boxer is coming off a knockout win over John Ryder earlier this year, and will now get his crack at the champion.

There is no love lost between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya. Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, was once in a partnership with De La Hoya, an International Boxing Hall of Famer. Things quickly deteriorated between the two sides, leading to a nasty split. Canelo is currently signed to Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions promotion, but he had fights under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

It appears that Canelo Alvarez and Jermall Charlo will meet in the boxing ring later this year. The Mexican superstar has been out of the ring since a unanimous decision victory over Jermell Charlo last September. The victory was Canelo Alvarez’s third in a row, previously defeating John Ryder and Gennadiy Golovkin. Months on from the super middleweight champion’s latest win, he will reportedly fight his last opponent’s brother, Jermall Charlo.
