A middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Chris Curtis served as the featured prelim of tonight’s UFC 287 event. Gastelum (16-8 MMA) will enter the contest with hopes of snapping a two-fight losing skid. The former TUF winner last competed in August of 2021, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Jared Cannonier.

Tonight’s UFC 287 event is down to a total of twelve bouts following a last-minute fight cancellation. A heavyweight bout between Chase Sherman and Karl Williams was slated to take place on tonight’s televised prelims. Unfortunately for fight fans, UFC commentator Jon Anik just announced that the bout has been scratched due a medical issue in Sherman’s camp.

Jorge Masvidal may be fighting Saturday night but he got into it with a bystander outside the UFC 287 weigh-in on Friday. Masvidal is set to take on Gilbert Burns in the co-main event in a big fight for his career, given he has lost three in a row. Although Masvidal has a scrap ahead of him, sometime on Friday, he got into it with a citizen, and a video was obtained by TMZ Sports.

Dana White was well-aware that Endeavor was going to purchase the WWE. It was revealed this week that the parent company of the UFC purchased the WWE and the plan was to merge them into one sports property valued at over 20 billion. The news surprised many but White said he met with Vince McMahon to talk about the deal as he had questions about what it was like to be owned by Endeavor.

He thought he would have success at 205lbs but of course, he is tabbed to headline UFC 287 in his first title defense as he rematches Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya is set to headline the pay-per-view card from Miami against Alex Pereira in a rematch of their UFC 281 fight in November. In that fight, Pereira scored a comeback fifth-round TKO win to become the champ and defeat Adesanya for the third time in combat sports as he also holds two wins over him in kickboxing.

At the time, Ngannou stated that issues with Dana White and the UFC’s restrictive contracts forced the exit. As a result, the promotion later booked Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane for the vacant title.
