Tonight’s UFC 262 event was co-headlined by a lightweight bout between perennial division contenders Tony Ferguson and Beneil Dariush. Ferguson (25-6 MMA), the promotions former interim lightweight champion, was looking to snap a two-fight losing skid when he took to the Octagon this evening in Texas. ‘El Cucuy’ had suffered losses to Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira in his most recent efforts. Prior to those setbacks, the 37-year-old had put together a sensational twelve-fight win streak.

Vera (16-9 MMA) entered today’s event headliner with hopes of earning his third consecutive defense of his ONE Heavyweight championship. ‘The Truth’ had earned first round finishes over Hideki Sekine and Mauro Cerilli in his initial title defenses.

Dana White has responded after Tony Ferguson insinuated that Michael Chandler received his UFC 262 title shot due to “Dana White privilege”. During Thursday’s pre-fight press conference, ‘El Cucuy’ took aim at Chandler by suggesting the former Bellator champ had “dodged him” and was then handed a title shot.

Dana White and the UFC prevented a boxing match between Georges St-Pierre and Oscar De La Hoya from coming to fruition according to Triller boss Ryan Kavanaugh. St-Pierre (26-2 MMA) had retired from mixed martial arts shortly after dethroning Michael Bisping for the promotions middleweight title in November of 2017. Despite having not competed in over three and half years, ‘GSP’ still needs permission from the UFC to fight with other promotions.

Jason Mayhem Miller arrested for vandalism and attempted grand theft, gets almost one year in jail

Jason Mayhem Miller has been sentenced to 364 days in jail and two years probation for felony charges of vandalism and attempted grand theft. According to the online records and CBS Los Angeles, Miller was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim, whom police said he knew. Miller has been in jail since his arrest this past August on a trio of felonies: first-degree burglary, unlawful taking of a vehicle, and grand theft auto. However, the latter charge was dismissed due to him reaching a plea deal.
UFC increases bonus money for UFC 262

The UFC has increased the bonus money for fighters starting at UFC 262 this Saturday night. For years, the UFC has done one Fight of the Night bonus to both fighters and two Performance of the Night bonuses with each fighter getting $50,000. However, according to Raphael Marinho of Combate, the promotion will increase the bonus money by $25,000 so each fighter will get $75,000.

UFC legend Nick Diaz shared footage of him training with heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury ahead of a potential comeback in mixed martial arts. Diaz was a guest at UFC 261 last month in Jacksonville, Florida, and he told UFC president Dana White that he wants to fight again. The last time we saw Diaz step into the Octagon was way back in January 2015 when he fought to a No Contest against Anderson Silva. In the six-plus years since then, there have been whispers of Diaz making a return to the Octagon, but it hasn’t happened up until this point. However, he appears to be serious about making a comeback this time, and he has been getting in some top-notch training.

Former UFC welterweight Tyron Woodley sent a message to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, telling him to “come and get this smoke for real.” Woodley has been vocal about his desire to fight Paul, who is coming off of a knockout win over Woodley’s teammate Ben Askren in his third professional boxing match. Though Paul is a YouTuber by trade, he has really turned into a draw in the world of boxing and there are a number of MMA fighters and boxers who want to fight him, Woodley included.

An exciting middleweight bout between top-15 ranked fighters Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland will take place at the UFC 265 event this summer. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the Hall vs. Strickland matchup, which will take place on August 7 at UFC 265. The event currently does not have the main event scheduled for it, but it does feature UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes against Julianna Pena. In addition, the card also features a pair of bantamweight bouts between Vince Morales and Drako Rodriguez, and Johnny Munoz and Jamey Simmons.

The UFC 262 weigh-ins took place on Friday in Houston, Texas, and headliners Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira both made weight. Both Oliveira and Chandler came in at 155lbs, so both men officially weighed in at the lightweight championship weight limit for this vacant title bout. Oliveira has won his last eight fights in a row to earn this shot at the belt, while Chandler has won three straight fights including a KO over Dan Hooker in his UFC debut. Oliveira vs. Chandler is an outstanding fight on paper and serves as an incredible main event for UFC 262.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal dropped two spots in the latest UFC rankings update after his recent loss at UFC 261. The latest rankings update dropped earlier this week, and Masvidal moved down two spots at 170lbs. While he was previously ranked No. 5 in the division, “Gamebred” has now dropped down to No. 7 overall, with Vicente Luque moving up to No. 5 and Michael Chiesa at No. 6. In addition to Masvidal dropping down two spots in the welterweight rankings, Neil Magny moved up to No. 8 in the division and Demian Maia dropped down to No. 9.

UFC middleweight Darren Till and welterweight prospect Khamzat Chimaev talked about a potential fight in a hilarious Instagram video. Till was recently announced to be returning to the Octagon this summer on August 14 when he takes on Derek Brunson in a five-round middleweight bout that headlines the UFC London event. As for Chimaev, he has been dealing with health issues all year long after a tough battle with COVID-19, but he is expected to make a return to the Octagon this summer. While Chimaev is fighting at welterweight now, it appears as though he is still interested in fighting at middleweight down the road, and Till could be an opponent.
