Coroner reveals UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar died of accidental fentanyl overdose

The cause of death for UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar has been released. According to the Clark County (Nev.) coroner’s office, they ruled Bonnar’s death accidental from “Fentanyl, Parafluorofentanyl and Mitragynine intoxication” in an email sent to MMA Fighting after a public records request following his death back in December.

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is still hoping for a second meeting with Conor McGregor. ‘Blessed’ returned to the octagon earlier this month in the main event of UFC Kansas City. There, Holloway faced the fastly-rising Arnold Allen, who entered the contest on a 12-fight winning streak. However, the winning streak would end there, as the Hawaiian won by unanimous decision after five hard-fought rounds.

Former UFC title challenger Nate Diaz has been charged with second-degree battery stemming from a brawl over the weekend. The Stockton native has been out of action since a submission win over Tony Ferguson in September. That fight was the last of Diaz’s contract with the UFC, and he quickly teased that he would head to the boxing ring next. In October, the fan-favorite attended Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva and nearly got into a brawl with the YouTuber’s team.

While Paul was able to score an eighth-round knockdown, it wasn’t enough to put away ‘TNT’, as the British prospect later won by split decision.

Former UFC title challenger Ray Borg has announced his retirement following his release from Bellator. The 29-year-old Borg (16-5 MMA) fought under the UFC banner from 2014 to 2020 where he was a top contender in the flyweight division. Borg defeated the likes of Louis Smolka (17-9 MMA), Rogerio Bontorin (16-5 MMA) and Gabriel Silva (9-3 MMA). He was defeated in a flyweight title bout by Demetrious Johnson (24-4 MMA) in October of 2017 at UFC 216.

Garcia went one-on-one with Gervonta “Tank” Davis in a high-profile fight between two bright undefeated boxing stars. “Tank” struck early, flooring an overzealous Garcia in the second round. “KingRy” appeared to be tentative after being dropped and his hooks lacked the force that fight fans had grown accustomed to seeing from him. Davis took his time before forcing Garcia to take a knee after delivering a beautiful body shot in the seventh round. Garcia couldn’t beat the 10-count and “Tank” Davis improved his pro boxing record to 29-0.

Bobby Green was none too pleased with the result of his UFC Vegas 71 bout against Jared Gordon. Green initially appeared to score a knockout victory over Gordon late in the first round after putting him out with some ground and pound. As it turns out, “King” Green and Gordon clashed heads, so the bout was ultimately ruled a no contest. This didn’t sit well with Bobby Green, who was visibly frustration during his post-fight media scrum. Green was asked how he was feeling about the result.

Sergei Pavlovich scored a massive TKO win over Curtis Blaydes and he’s made it clear that he expects a crack at the UFC Heavyweight Championship next. Pavlovich and Blaydes shared the Octagon in the main event of UFC Vegas 71. The action was held inside the UFC Apex in front of a limited crowd. Pavlovich made sure Blaydes’ night was over early. He scored the TKO finish just over three minutes into the opening frame. The victory earned Pavlovich a “Performance of the Night” bonus.

UFC megastar Conor McGregor has been tickled by Nate Diaz’s recent scuffle on Bourbon Street. McGregor and Diaz have been known to hurl barbs at one another, but they’ve also shown mutual respect. It’s the latter in this case, as McGregor weighed in on Diaz choking out a Logan Paul lookalike outside of the XULA Convocation Center, the site of Misfits Boxing 6 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

A TikTok user known for looking like Logan Paul is claiming that he was the one who was choked out by former UFC fighter Nate Diaz in New Orleans. Diaz has never been one to shy away from confrontation, and he once again found himself getting physical. Diaz attended the Misfits Boxing 6 card to support his teammate Chris Avila, who was in action against Paul Bamba. Avila won the fight via unanimous decision, but Diaz’s night was more eventful than his teammate’s. To get things started, the Stockton native threw a water bottle at reality TV star Chase DeMoor in the crowd.

Zak Cummings figured UFC Kansas City would be his retirement fight and that ended up being the case. Cummings finally made his return to the Octagon last weekend, this after dealing with a bad back injury that left him unable to even pick up his daughter. It was a hard few months for Cummings but he finally was able to return at UFC Kansas City and got a third-round TKO win over Ed Herman. Although Cummings believed he would win, he was surprised by how dominant it was.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 71 event, an eleven-bout fight card headlined by Sergei Pavlovich vs. Curtis Blaydes. Tonight’s highly anticipated heavyweight main event did not make it out of the opening round. Sergei Pavlovich was aggressive right from the get-go, but Curtis Blaydes was doing a good job early with his counter punches. However, the Russian knockout artist eventually found a home for some of his big shots and sent ‘Razor’ crashing to the canvas from an uppercut. From there, Pavlovich used some ground and pound to put Blaydes away for good.
