He’s proven he can make interesting fights happen even outside the UFC, but sometimes, even the most positive-thinking Nate fan will raise an eyebrow.

The 37-year-old Russian seeks to reclaim the belt he lost at ONE 169 last November in his first career defeat.

Diego Lopes has some blunt advice for Jean Silva after their Noche UFC battle. Lopes and Silva shared the Octagon inside Frost Bank Center in San Antonio this past Saturday. Lopes was a big fan favorite and he fed off that energy with a mostly one-sided fight that did not disappoint.

The Octagon returned to San Antonio for tonight’s Noche UFC 3 event, and three fighters wound up taking home performance bonuses. The fight card was headlined by a high stake’s featherweight bout featuring Diego Lopes taking on Jean Silva. The contest resulted in an absolutely thrilling contest for as long as it lasted. Diego Lopes was able to get the fight to the floor early in the opening round and proceeded to batter ‘Lord’ with some heavy ground and pound. However, Jean Silva battled back quickly in round two, rocking Lopes with a right hand and then putting him on his bicycle. While moving in for a kill shot, Lopes countered Silva with a perfectly timed spinning elbow which sent Jean crashing to the floor. From there, Lopes promptly finished the fight with ground and pound (see that here).

The former TUF winner had gone 2-3 over his previous five Octagon appearances overall.

Arman Tsarukyan is the number two-ranked lightweight contender in the UFC. While he has outlined his competitive return, it will not be under a mixed martial arts ruleset. Islam Makhachev is the listed number one lightweight contender, but with his looming welterweight title bid against 170-pound champ Jack Della Maddalena at MSG later this year, many foresee Tsarukyan being next up for the title. While Tsarukyan versus Ilia Topuria is far from confirmed at this juncture, the former will, in fact, be testing his skills soon with a former UFC lightweight champ. This will transpire at ACBJJ 18 on September 19th. Tsarukyan will grapple against former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

The former UFC middleweight champion, at one point, qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to participate in their freestyle wrestling event. Another notable figure who had also qualified for that field was professional wrestling star Joe Hendry, who called out the UFC combatant upon finding out he would be competing in his same weight category.

Joe Pyfer has called for a particular rematch a few times over the intervening years with the fighter in question responding to the call for a sequel clash someday. Dustin Stoltzfus collides with Kelvin Gastelum at Noche UFC on September 13th with the bout being amended to a catchweight following the latter’s weight miss on the scales. Stoltzfus punched his ticket to the UFC by defeating Pyfer in August 2020 after an arm injury came from the former slamming the latter, causing the bout to be halted in the opening stanza on Dana White’s Contender Series.

While Jon Jones may have apologized to UFC CEO Dana White, it doesn’t appear he’ll be getting his White House wish. Jones left the heavyweight division in a lurch with his noncommitment to a title unification bout against Tom Aspinall. Aspinall had been the interim UFC Heavyweight Champion since Nov. 2023, but “Bones” continued to tease both going through with the fight and retiring. White claimed that Jones initially agreed to the fight, but walked it back by retiring.

Kelvin Gastelum did not have a great start to his day prior to Noche UFC. Gastelum tipped the scales ahead of what was supposed to be a middleweight fight against Dustin Stoltzfus. While Stoltzfus made the contracted weight at 185.5 pounds, Gastelum didn’t come close. He ended up weighing in at 191 pounds, which is five pounds over the weight limit for a non-title bout.
