Prior to that setback, ‘Ruthless’ was coming off a TKO victory over fellow MMA legend Nick Diaz.

The Octagon remains in Nevada for tonight’s UFC 290 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Alex Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez. Volkanovski (25-2 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since suffering a razor close decision loss to Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title back in February. That setback snapped the Aussie’s incredible 22-fight win streak. Prior to his controversial loss to Makhachev, ‘The Great’ had successfully defended his featherweight title for a fourth time by defeating Max Holloway at UFC 276.

The deal is finally done, Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic is set for UFC 295 in November. ‘Bones’ made his long-awaited return to the cage in March against Ciryl Gane. While the former light-heavyweight repeatedly called for a clash with Stipe Miocic, it failed to come to fruition. As a result, Jon Jones faced ‘Bon Gamin’ in the main event of UFC 285, and made quick work in his return.

A battle between bantamweights Pedro Munhoz and Marlon Vera has been added to UFC 292. The card is slated for August and will be the promotion’s return trip to Boston. At the top of the card, Aljamain Sterling is expected to return for yet another title defense against Sean O’Malley. ‘The Funk Master’ was confronted in the octagon by ‘Sugar’ after his win over Henry Cejudo in May.

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier believes Jon Jones is the most dominant fighter in MMA history. The rivalry between ‘DC’ and ‘Bones’ was one for the ages. They first faced off at UFC 182 in January 2015, as Jon Jones handed Daniel Cormier his first career loss by unanimous decision. However, the build to the contest was intense, and saw the two even engage in a press-conference brawl.

Former welterweight contender Nate Diaz has admitted that pay had nothing to do with his UFC exit. The Stockton native has been out of the cage since his UFC 279 clash with Tony Ferguson last September. Originally slated to face Khamzat Chimaev, the bout with ‘El Cucuy’ was made after a bad weight miss. In the makeshift pay-per-view main event, Nate Diaz won by fourth-round submission.

Kamuela Kirk is finally back in action. Kirk has not fought since March of 2022 when he suffered a submission loss to Damon Jackson in his second UFC fight. In his debut, he beat Makwan Amirkhani after stepping up on short notice. After the loss, Kirk realized it was time to move to lightweight. Once he made the move, he was booked to face Esteban Ribovics at UFC 285 in March.

Shannon Ross is looking to prove to the doubters that he belongs in the UFC. Ross suffered a TKO loss to Vinicius Salvador on the Contender Series, but it was revealed he fought with appendicitis, so Dana White signed him. In his debut, he suffered a 59-second knockout loss to Kleydson Rodrigues and wasn’t sure what would be next after the setback.

Sean Strickland is responding after being told to ‘carry yourself with class’ by UFC announcer Bruce Buffer. It was just last Saturday, July 1st that Sean Strickland (27-5 MMA) defeated Abus Magomedov (25-5 MMA) via TKO in the main event. That win moved Strickland to #7 in the UFC middleweight rankings.

In the mixed martial arts sphere, Brendan Schaub is an interesting character. While some respect and enjoy his analysis of the sport, others feel like he doesn’t contribute anything substantial. Either way, though, he certainly knows how to make some noise, especially if he has controversial opinions.
