Meerschaert shared the Octagon with Edmen Shahbazyan in the UFC Vegas 96 main card opening. It was “The Machine” who scored a second-round submission finish to notch his second straight victory. Meerschaert was able to secure a “Performance of the Night” bonus to boot.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 96 event, a 12-bout fight card headlined by Jared Cannonier vs. Caio Borralho. The highly anticipated middleweight main event proved to be a coming out party for Caio Borralho. ‘The Natural’ was able to hurt Jared Cannonier on a number of occasions during their twenty-five-minute contest, even dropping ‘Tha Killa Gorilla’ in the fifth and final round (see that here). Despite the late onslaught, Jared Cannonier showed his toughness and durability as he was able to survive to hear the final horn.

UFC Vegas 96 is down to a total of 11 bouts following the cancelation of a featherweight contest between Zygimantas Ramaska and Nathan Fletcher. Ramaska (9-2 MMA) and Fletcher (8-1 MMA) was supposed to serve as the second bout of tonight’s televised prelims on ESPN+. Unfortunately for fight fans, the bout has been canceled due to an undisclosed medical issue on Fletcher’s part.
