Tonight’s UFC Columbus main card features a welterweight bout pitting hometown favorite Matt Brown against fellow brawler Bryan Barberena. Brown (23-18 MMA) last competed in June of 2021, where scored a sensational second round knockout over Dhiego Lima. That win snapped a two-fight losing skid for the Ohio native, as ‘Immortal’ had previously suffered setbacks to Carlos Condit and Miguel Baeza.

When the promotion announced they were heading back to Columbus, Brown immediately asked Sean Shelby to get him on the card. However, the UFC matchmaker told him the card was full which shocked Brown as he is one of the only fighters from Columbus on the roster.

Longtime UFC welterweight veteran Matt Brown has been forced to pull out of his upcoming UFC Vegas 44 bout with Bryan Barberena. Brown revealed on his social media on Tuesday that he tested positive for COVID-19 and his fight against Barberena, which was set to take place at UFC Vegas 44, has been scratched. The event is set to take place on December 4 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event features bantamweight contenders Rob Font and Jose Aldo.

Veteran UFC welterweight fan-favorite Matt Brown returns to the Octagon against Bryan Barberena in a fan-friendly matchup later this year. MMADNA’s Marcel Dorff was the first to break the news of Brown vs. Barberena. The fight is set to take place on December 4. There is no location or venue currently set for this event, though the UFC has held most of its events at the Apex in Las Vegas since the COVID-19 pandemic started, so there seems to be a good chance the event takes place in Vegas. Also on the card is a light heavyweight bout between Jamahal Hill and Jimmy Crute as well as a lightweight bout between Brad Riddell and Rafael Fiziev, in addition to several other bouts.

The 40-year-old Brown scored a thunderous KO when he landed a brutal straight right on the chin of Lima, knocking his opponent out cold. For Brown, this was a big win for him after losing his last two fights to Carlos Condit and Miguel Baeza. He needed to get his hand raised in this fight and he got the job done with yet another highlight-reel KO.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 29 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by The Korean Zombie vs. Dan Ige. The highly anticipated featherweight main event proved to be a thrilling twenty-five minute affair. ‘TKZ’ was able to get the better of the Hawaiian in the early rounds, even dropping Ige with a right hand in round two. However, Dan showcased his toughness and wound up storming back to win round four.

Brown lost a unanimous decision to Carlos Condit at UFC on ABC 1, whereas Lima fell to a decision defeat of his own at the hands of Belal Muhammad back at UFC 258.

Former UFC welterweight title contender Dan Hardy said he wants to return to the Octagon, and now Matt Brown has volunteered his services. Hardy hasn’t fought since a unanimous decision win over Amir Sadollah at UFC Nottingham in September 2012, the same night Stipe Miocic was knocked out by Stefan Struve. Hardy was supposed to fight Brown at UFC on FOX 7 in April 2013, but he was forced out of the fights by doctors due to Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome (WPWS) and he has not fought since then. However, Hardy has continued to train, and now that his condition is improved, he has been teasing a return to the Octagon. His goal is to fight again sometime in 2021.

Fan favorite welterweight fighter Matt Brown will not be retiring following his recent unanimous decision loss to Carlos Condit. Brown and Condit squared off in the headliner of UFC Fight Island 7 two weeks ago, with ‘The Natural Born Killer’ emerging victorious by way of judges decision.
