Matt Brown signs new UFC contract

Top ranked UFC welterweight Matt Brown is coming off a 3rd round submission loss to Demian Maia earlier this month at UFC 198, but will likely be looking to return to the Octagon sooner rather than later with his newly signed contract. The contract is for 8 fights, and according to a recent social media post, Brown is quite pleased with the deal.

Despite facing defeat over the weekend at UFC 198, Matt Brown doesn’t agree with the UFC’s decision to have Tyron Woodley fighting for the welterweight title against Robbie Lawler in the main event at UFC 201. “He didn’t beat nobody,” Brown said to MMAjunkie. “Gastelum is nobody that you beat to get a title fight. The Condit fight – do you even consider that a victory? That’s debatable in itself. He didn’t beat Condit; he won by default. He hasn’t really done anything else beyond that.”

At UFC 198, fights didn’t just take place inside the cage. Top ranked UFC welterweight Matt Brown was hit in the head multiple times on his walkout to the Octagon. In addition, Brown was then hit in the back of the head in the hotel lobby the next morning. Rodrigo Botti, a former trainer of UFC welterweight Matt Brown allegedly attacked Brown at his hotel in Brazil on Sunday after his UFC 198 fight with Demian Maia. Video was released of the incident following Botti’s alleged attack on Brown. The video shows a man who has been identified as Vinicius “Pequeno” Lemos punishing Botti for his attack on Brown.
