Chael Sonnen says Leon Edwards has been offered his show and his win money to step aside for Conor McGregor to face Kamaru Usman. Edwards (19-3 MMA) is expected to challenge Kamaru Usman (20-1 MMA) for the UFC welterweight title later this summer, likely in July. The proposed title fight would be a rematch of a bout that occurred over six years ago when both men were prospects in the promotion. The pair originally met in December of 2015, with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ earning a unanimous decision victory over ‘Rocky’, thanks in large part to his wrestling.

Montana De La Rosa always wanted to rebook her fight against Maycee Barber. De La Rosa and Barber were set to meet at UFC 269, but Montana was forced out of the bout with an injury. Yet, shortly after, Barber suffered a similar injury and once that happened, the hope for De La Rosa was to get the fight rebooked.

Jake Shields is hoping his longtime friend and teammate, Nick Diaz fights again. Diaz made his highly-anticipated return back at UFC 266 against Robbie Lawler. The fight came together quickly but on fight week, Diaz got the fight moved to middleweight and many were concerned with that. Ultimately, he suffered a TKO loss to Lawler and after the bout, Shields says Diaz was forced into taking the fight.

Following the bout, the UFC featherweight champion opined that a move upwards might make sense. With not many matchups left at 145-pounds, he’s begun discussing a move to lightweight.

Gilbert Burns will be getting a big fight his next time out. At UFC 273, Burns took the risk of fighting rising star Khamzat Chimaev, this despite being ranked much higher than ‘Borz’. The fight ended up being much closer than many anticipated, with the Swede edging out a close decision victory. While it was ultimately a losing effort for ‘Durinho’, Dana White was so impressed by his performance that he paid Burns his win bonus.

Chase Sherman has had a whirlwind of a week, to say the least. Sherman was officially released from the UFC just four days ago, partly due to him and his manager asking for it. He says Mick Maynard wanted to keep him on the roster, but they had no fights for him so the plan was to go back to BKFC and get some fights there and then re-sign with the UFC in the future.

Bellator fighter Corey Anderson has proclaimed that he’s the best light-heavyweight on the planet. He’s also questioning if Dana White is regretting releasing him from the UFC. ‘Overtime’ is coming off a no-contest with Vadim Nemov last weekend at Bellator 277. The bout came to a close due to an illegal headbutt near the end of the third round. Prior to the illegal blow, Anderson was in complete control and was on his way to winning light-heavyweight gold.

The battle between friends turned foes was anything but competitive. With the exception of a fourth-round knockout, Covington dominated en route to a unanimous decision victory.
UFC Rankings Update: Dustin Poirier leapfrogs Jon Jones on P4P list

In the latest update of the UFC rankings Dustin Poirier has overtaken former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on the pound-for-pound list. Poirier (28-7 MMA), last fought at UFC 269 in December 2021 against Charles Oliveira (32-8 MMA) in the lightweight main event. It was Oliveira who beat ‘The Diamond’ during that match-up. However, prior to that loss Poirier met and defeated Conor McGregor (22-6 MMA) twice during 2021.

Maycee Barber is glad her fight against Montana De La Rosa got rebooked. Barber and De La Rosa were set to fight at UFC 269 back in December but De La Rosa was forced out of the fight due to an injury. Shortly after that, Barber also suffered an injury and now that they are both healthy, they will fight on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 52.

Over the next few weeks, the tale quickly unraveled. It was learned that Velasquez attempted to shoot a man in a car that had allegedly molested a close relative of his over 100 times. It was later learned that it was the former champion’s son who was the victim.
