Alexander Volkanovski replaced him on short notice and ultimately, came up short in a knockout defeat to the star from Dagestan.

However, it seems that the welterweight champion’s time at 170 pounds might be limited afterward.

After Jon Jones tore his pec and his fight against Stipe Miocic was called off, the UFC booked Aspinall vs. Pavlovich to serve as the co-main event of UFC 295 for the interim heavyweight title. The fight was made on just over two weeks’ notice and during one of Aspinall’s first training sessions, he hurt his back.

Pereira surprised many by calling out Adesanya following his second-round TKO victory over Jiri Prochazka in the main event of UFC 295. Prochazka was floored by a counter hook from Pereira, who finished the fight with elbows to the head. The bout was contested for vacant UFC light heavyweight gold.

Jiri Prochazka has released a video statement following his TKO loss to Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 295. Prochazka and Pereira competed for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on Saturday night (November 11). Jamahal Hill vacated the 205-pound gold due to a ruptured Achilles. Prochazka, who had to vacate the light heavyweight title himself, was looking to become a two-time champion. It wasn’t meant to be this time, as Pereira dropped Prochazka with a counter hook and followed it up with elbows to the head. Referee Marc Godard had seen enough waved the fight off.
