Alvarez (30-8 and two No Contests MMA, 1-0 BKFC) was returning to action for the first time since April of 2021, where he had suffered a loss to Ok Rae Yoon at ONE on TNT 4. The Philadelphia native later asked for and was granted his release from ONE Championship. Eddie’s most recent win had come back in 2019, when he defeated Eduard Folayang by first-round submission.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 72 event, an eleven-bout fight card headlined by Song Yadong vs. Ricky Simon. Tonight’s bantamweight main event proved to be a coming out party for Song Yadong. ‘The Kung Fu Kid’ was able to dominate Ricky Simon in the standup and did a great job with his takedown defense throughout the course of the fight. After dropping Simon in the final second of round four, Yadong quickly picked up the TKO finish just 1:10 into the fifth and final round. The Team Alpha Male product called out both Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera after his win.

Brady Hiestand knew he had the cardio advantage over Batgerel Danaa and thought the longer the fight went, the better it was for him. Entering the fight at UFC Vegas 71, Hiestand was the underdog but was confident he had all the tools to win. In the first round, Hiestand thought he had a lot of success and went to his corner thinking he won the opening round. In the second round, Danaa dropped him and dominated the round, so Hiestand thought it was 1-1 but still wasn’t going to leave it to the judges so knew he needed to get a stoppage.
