Robert Whittaker scolds Kelvin Gastelum for Noche UFC weigh-in miss

Robert Whittaker wasn’t thrilled seeing Kelvin Gastelum miss weight again. Gastelum shared the Octagon with Dustin Stoltzfus on the Noche UFC card this past Saturday. One day prior to the fight, Gastelum missed the middleweight limit by five pounds and was fined 35 percent of his fight purse. Gastelum ended up winning the fight via unanimous decision.
Michael Page wanted top UFC welterweight prospect, heard crickets instead

Michael Page hasn’t had luck securing a fight with one top UFC prospect. Page has been having success under the UFC banner, going 3-1 for the promotion. He’s fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Jared Cannonier at UFC 319 back in August.
Lerone Murphy goes off on suggested UFC title eliminator between Aljamain Sterling and Diego Lopes

Lerone Murphy heard a suggestion to have Aljamain Sterling and Diego Lopes fight in a title eliminator and he will have none of it. Murphy believes he has earned the right to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC Featherweight Championship. Murphy delivered a spectacular spinning back elbow knockout in his bout with Aaron Pico back in August. Volkanovski was impressed by Murphy’s outing and agreed that the two should meet with the 145-pound gold at stake.

The Octagon returned to San Antonio for tonight’s Noche UFC 3 event, and three fighters wound up taking home performance bonuses. The fight card was headlined by a high stake’s featherweight bout featuring Diego Lopes taking on Jean Silva. The contest resulted in an absolutely thrilling contest for as long as it lasted. Diego Lopes was able to get the fight to the floor early in the opening round and proceeded to batter ‘Lord’ with some heavy ground and pound. However, Jean Silva battled back quickly in round two, rocking Lopes with a right hand and then putting him on his bicycle. While moving in for a kill shot, Lopes countered Silva with a perfectly timed spinning elbow which sent Jean crashing to the floor. From there, Lopes promptly finished the fight with ground and pound (see that here).

Islam Makhachev is the listed number one lightweight contender, but with his looming welterweight title bid against 170-pound champ Jack Della Maddalena at MSG later this year, many foresee Tsarukyan being next up for the title.
