This past Saturday, June 10th, saw Charles Oliveira (34-9 MMA) vs Beneil Dariush (22-5 MMA) in the lightweight co-main event. It was Oliveira who would prove victorious by way of TKO at 4:10 of Round 1 (see that here).

Irene Aldana has issued a statement following her championship loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 289 last weekend. In the main event of UFC 289, Irene Aldana failed to capture the UFC bantamweight title. She went up against Amanda Nunes, the woman many considered to be the GOAT. Outside of clipping Nunes on the counter in the first round, Aldana didn’t really do a whole lot of note throughout the course of the contest.

Former UFC and Strikeforce veteran Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva has finally decided to call it a career. Silva was in action for Kingdom Fighting 1 recently. He took on Salim El Ouassaidi. Silva was hoping for his first win since August 2015, but it wasn’t meant to be. Silva had been on the receiving end of some brutal finishing losses going into this fight. He wasn’t stopped in his bout with Ouassaidi, but “Bigfoot” was defeated via decision.

Raquel Pennington sees a path to the UFC title following Amanda Nunes’ retirement, and she even has a dance partner in mind. Pennington was in attendance for UFC 289, which featured a UFC women’s bantamweight title fight between Nunes and Irene Aldana. In fact, Pennington actually weighed in a day before the fight because she was the emergency backup fighter. Pennington witnessed ‘The Lioness” dominate Aldana for five rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory. After the fight, Nunes announced her retirement from pro MMA competition.

UFC President Dana White says he isn’t surprised that Amanda Nunes is walking away from pro MMA competition. Nunes was in action in the main event of UFC 289. She put the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship on the line against Irene Aldana. “The Lioness” was dominant throughout the fight in her standup and wrestling. The bout went the distance and Nunes was awarded the unanimous decision victory. After the fight, the future UFC Hall of Famer left her gloves and two UFC titles on the mat and announced her retirement.

The Octagon returned to Canada for tonight’s UFC 289 event, an eleven-bout fight card headlined by Amanda Nunes vs. Irene Aldana. The highly anticipated women’s bantamweight title fight proved to be a one-sided affair. Amanda Nunes dominated Irene Aldana for all five rounds, battering the challenger with jabs and ground and pound. After twenty-five minutes of GOAT work, ‘The Lioness’ was awarded the unanimous decision victory. Following the win, Nunes shocked fans and fellow fighters by announcing her retirement from MMA.

Daniel Pineda had a chance to enter the featherweight rankings last weekend. Not even three months after Pineda submitted Tucker Lutz at the end of March, he took a fight against Alex Caceres at UFC Vegas 74. It was a chance for Pineda to enter the ranks, but in the end, it was Caceres who won by decision.
