Marvin Vettori releases statement following decision loss to Jared Cannonier

Marvin Vettori has released a statement following his lopsided decision loss to Jared Cannonier at UFC Vegas 75. Vettori was headlining the card at the UFC Apex on Saturday night and entered the fight as a small betting favorite. Right out of the gates, Vettori landed a nice shot that rocked Cannonier and had him stumbling. Yet, that was one of the only bright spots for the Italian as Cannonier took over and had Vettori hurt on numerous occasions to cruise to a unanimous decision victory. The judges scored the fight, 49-45, 49-45, and 48-46, as Cannonier outstruck Vettori 257-154, with ‘The Killa Gorilla’ landing 241 significant strikes in the fight.

UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev will have to wait until the promotion’s trip to Abu Dhabi to fight. The Russian has been out of action since his clash with Alexander Volkanovski in February. The two champions headlined UFC 284 and put on an instant classic. At the end of the five-round bout, it was Makhachev who retained the lightweight title by unanimous decision.

Glory heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem has seemingly undergone a massive body transformation. ‘The Demolition Man’ has been out of the kickboxing ring since his trilogy bout with Badr Hari last October. The bout was his first kickboxing match in well over a decade and also marked his first since exiting the UFC. Alistair Overeem was famously cut by the promotion following a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov in February 2021.

On Sunday night, Chael Sonnen confirmed reports that Lencioni had a medical issue as he was training and lost consciousness. Immediately, he was rushed to the hospital and a week later, he still has not regained consciousness and is in ICU, but Sonnen did not share what caused Lencioni to lose his consciousness.

Recently, it was revealed by ESPN MX that Jermall Charlo has emerged as the lead candidate to fight Canelo Alvarez next. Charlo is the WBC Middleweight Champion. If the fight comes to fruition, Charlo would be competing for Canelo’s undisputed super-middleweight gold. Prior to Charlo’s name being mentioned as the lone candidate, WBC Cruiserweight Champion Badou Jack was also mentioned as a strong possibility.

Jared Cannonier has no interest in facing Khamzat Chimaev if one key stipulation isn’t in place. Jared Cannonier took the headlining spot on the UFC Vegas 75 card. He went one-on-one with Marvin Vettori. Cannonier’s powerful striking was on display. While he couldn’t finish his very tough opponent, Jared Cannonier did leave visible damage on Marvin Vettori’s face by the time the fight ended. The decision was clear as well, and Cannonier had his hand raise when the dust settled.
