The Donn Davis-led promotion famously bought Bellator in late 2023, signaling a big move for the company. However, their 2024 offering was a bit of a mixed bag. While names such as Dakota Ditcheva continued to rise, many, many fighters were unhappy. Names such as Patricio Pitbull, Gegard Mousasi, Austin Vanderford and more, all requested and were granted their releases.

With the belt vacated, Lopes will headline UFC 314 against Alexander Volkanovski for the vacant title. Although Lopes is focused on his own fight, he says he will pay attention to how Topuria does at lightweight and expects the former champ to have success.

Former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler isn’t saying never on a BKFC fight against Mike Perry. ‘Ruthless’ famously retired following a stunning first-round knockout win over Niko Price in July 2023. The former champion got the storybook ending many fighters crave, but he could wind up fighting again. Earlier this year, Mike Perry called out Robbie Lawler to a fight in the BKFC ring. For his part, ‘Platinum’ hasn’t been in action since his knockout loss to Jake Paul in the boxing ring last July.

Nick Diaz was famously set to end a three-year layoff against Vicente Luque last summer in Abu Dhabi. However, the welterweight withdrew due to unknown reasons, and the bout was rebooked for UFC 310 in December. Sadly, the fight was again canceled. However, this cancellation was far more troubling.

Topuria made the decision to relinquish the featherweight title in favor of moving up to the lightweight division.

Oh, and he also gave Islam Makhachev the toughest fight of his UFC run at lightweight.

Smith believes he’s likely already stayed around for too long but knows the time is now to retire, regardless of the result. Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will compete in the boxing ring later this month. ‘The Pitbull’ hasn’t been seen in action since a clash with Martin Buday last June at UFC 303. The former champion entered the bout riding a three-fight losing streak, previously suffering losses against Waldo Cortes-Acosta, Don’Tale Mayes, and Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Sadly for Andrei Arlovski, he was handed a split-decision loss by ‘Badys’ last summer. After the defeat, he was released from the promotion.

Last month, Paige VanZant was in the corner of her husband, Austin Vanderford, for his promotional debut at UFC Seattle. On a week’s notice, the former Bellator title challenger secured a second-round knockout win over Nikolay Veretennikov. For VanZant, the moment was an incredibly special one.
