UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington says he would verbally submit Dustin Poirier in a fight, suggesting “it wouldn’t be competitive.” Covington and Poirier are former teammates at American Top Team who are now heated rivals. Poirier is one of the best lightweights in the world, while Covington has established himself as a welterweight contender, so a fight on paper doesn’t seem like one that would happen anytime soon. But “The Diamond” has mentioned in the past that he would be interested in moving up to 170lbs, and if that’s the case, then Covington would welcome it.

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington explained how former teammate Dustin Poirier helped forced his exit from American Top Team. Covington and Poirier do not like each other, that much we know for sure. The two have had numerous back-and-forths over the last few years, and it ultimately reached a boiling point where the two could no longer be teammates at American Top Team. That led to Covington eventually leaving ATT and joining MMA Masters, while Poirier continues to be one of the big names at Covington’s old gym. In a recent interview with The Daily Wire, Covington explained how Poirier’s dislike for him led to him being forced out of ATT.

UFC welterweight title contender Vicente Luque says he is open to being the backup for Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington 2 at UFC 268. Luque is one of the hottest fighters at 170lbs right now as he’s won his last four fights in a row — all by stoppage — including a D’Arce choke submission win over Michael Chiesa at UFC 265 that moved him into the top-five of the UFC welterweight division. Luque has since then called for a title shot against the champion Usman, but the champ is set to take on Covington in a rematch later this year at UFC 268. Although Luque knows that he will have to wait and see what happens in the Usman vs. Covington fight before he gets his crack at the belt, the Brazilian says he is open to being the backup fighter just in case something happens to either fighter. Ever since Usman scored a fifth-round TKO over Covington back at UFC 245, “Chaos” has made it clear he wanted to get the rematch. Now, UFC president, Dana White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto the fight will take place at UFC 268. The date of the event is not set, nor the location but the hope is it will be at Madison Square Garden. It’s also not clear if this fight will serve as the main event of the card.

UFC welterweight Colby Covington trashed “loser” Leon Edwards after beating Nate Diaz, saying “there’s no honor in beating a guy like that.” Edwards defeated Diaz via unanimous decision at UFC 263 in June, but while the Brit clearly won the first four rounds of the fight, most fans only remember the fifth round where Diaz rocked “Rocky” with a big punch and nearly finished him. In the end, Edwards was awarded the win and he is now officially on a top-10 fight unbeaten streak, which is why he believes he should be next in line to fight UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. However, Covington is confident that he is deserving of being next for the belt.

Dillashaw returns from a 30-month layoff this weekend when he takes on his former training partner Sandhagen in a potential No. 1 contender bout at 135lbs. Remember, Dillashaw never lost his belt in a fight, but rather gave it up when he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz sent a harrowing message out to Colby Covington, suggesting that “he’s gonna get what he asked for very violently.” Covington is the No. 1 contender in the UFC welterweight division and he is next expected to take on Abdelaziz’s client, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, in a rematch. The two previously met at UFC 245 in December 2019, with Usman winning via fifth-round TKO. UFC president Dana White has said that was one of his favorite fights of all time and he has confirmed Covington is next in line for the title. “Chaos” wants the fight too, but as far as Abdelaziz goes, Covington is biting off more than he can chew against Usman.

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington believes Conor McGregor’s “pride and ego” will keep him in the fight game despite his leg injury. McGregor broke his leg against rival Dustin Poirier in the main event of this past weekend’s UFC 264 trilogy fight. The Irishman threw a kick that Poirier blocked with his elbow and as soon as he stepped down on the mat, his leg gave way. McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh said that McGregor was also dealing with an injury in training camp that may have led to the injury. Either way, McGregor is expected to be on the sidelines with the injury for the rest of the year, and given how devastating it was, some believe he may be out longer.

Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier haven’t liked each other for quite some time and now “Chaos” wants to settle their differences inside the Octagon. Covington and Poirier had a falling out after Colby picked Khabib Nurmagomedov to defeat his longtime teammate. After that, Poirier said it would be on sight if he saw Covington and the two have continued to take shots at one another. For ‘Chaos’, he says Poirier actually weighs more than him so he thinks it’s a fair fight.

UFC welterweight Colby Covington said that “dirtbag” Dustin Poirier’s win over Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 264 was “a fluke.” Poirier won the trilogy with McGregor on Saturday night at UFC 264 when he got his hand raised via first-round TKO (doctor stoppage) after the Irishman broke his leg near the end of the first round. While it was a strange ending to the fight, it appeared as though Poirier was in control of the match up until the stoppage, and two of the three judges gave him a 10-8 scorecard in the first round. But while Poirier may have been on his way to a win before the injury, the fact the fight ended that way makes some, such as Covington, believe that the end of the fight was more of a fluke than any sort of legitimate win.

Jorge Masvidal is looking to return in the fall and has two names in mind. After Masvidal suffered a KO loss to Kamaru Uamsn for the welterweight title he said he would be returning in the fall. He said he wanted a top-ranked opponent and he’s sticking to that as he wants the rivalry fight against Colby Covington. Or, according to his manager, “Gamebred” is also interested in fighting Nick Diaz.

Covington is a former teammate with Poirier at American Top Team and there is no love lost between them, but even if he doesn’t like “The Diamond,” he recognizes the fact that Poirier has some advantages in this upcoming trilogy fight with McGregor. As far as Covington goes, the third fight between Poirier and McGregor will look more like the second encounter between these two rivals rather than the first, meaning Poirier will win the fight.
