Ferguson (25-9 MMA) had entered the contest with hopes of snapping his five-fight losing skid. ‘El Cucuy’ had suffered a submission loss to Nate Diaz in his most previous effort back at UFC 279. Tony Ferguson says he is now fighting for himself and no one else. Ferguson is set to return to the lightweight division at UFC 291 as he faces Bobby Green. It’s an intriguing matchup as ‘El Cucuy’ has struggled as of late. Ferguson has lost five in a row, but outside of Nate Diaz in his last fight, he has only lost to top-five fighters. Before losing to Diaz, he suffered losses to Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, and Michael Chandler.

Green initially appeared to score a knockout victory over Gordon late in the first round after putting him out with some ground and pound. As it turns out, “King” Green and Gordon clashed heads, so the bout was ultimately ruled a no contest. This didn’t sit well with Bobby Green, who was visibly frustration during his post-fight media scrum. Green was asked how he was feeling about the result.

It was only a couple of weeks after Colby Covington (17-3 MMA) defeated Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA) at UFC 272 in March of this year, that Masvidal allegedly ambushed ‘Chaos’ outside a Papi Steak restaurant in Miami, Florida. The incident ended with Colby being sucker punched by ‘Gamebred‘ in the face twice, suffering a broken tooth, plus he sustained damage to his $90K Rolex watch.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 49, a pivotal lightweight bout headlined the card as Islam Makhachev took on Bobby Green. Makhachev entered the fight coming off a first-round submission win over Dan Hooker at UFC 267 in October. He went 3-0 in 2021 with submission wins over Thiago Moises and Drew Dober as well. Green, meanwhile, stepped up on 10 days’ notice after Beneil Dariush was forced out of the bout, marking his second fight in just 14 days.

Bobby Green didn’t take long to react to his UFC Vegas 49 defeat at the hands of Islam Makhachev. Green stepped up as a late replacement when Beneil Dariush went down with an injury. He shared the Octagon with Makhachev inside the UFC Apex on Feb. 26. It didn’t take long for Makhachev to score the takedown and work his magic to nab the TKO finish.
