Former UFC title challenger Anthony Smith is now set for his retirement fight. ‘Lionheart’ hasn’t been seen in the cage since a clash with Dominick Reyes at UFC 310 in December. Sadly for Anthony Smith, he entered the bout with a heavy heart. Just weeks before the fight, his longtime coach, Scott Morton, suddenly passed away. While Smith debated pulling out of the bout, he continued with it.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz received support from an unlikely foe after announcing his retirement. ‘The Dominator’ was set to make one final walk to the cage this weekend in the co-main event of UFC Seattle. Over two years after being knocked out by Marlon Vera, Dominick Cruz signed a deal to face Rob Font. Ahead of the bout, the former champion confirmed it would be his last. With a lifetime of injuries and approaching his 40th birthday, the decision made sense.

Justin Gaethje says Islam Makhachev is his dream fight as he believes he matches up well with the lightweight champion. Gaethje is set to return to the Octagon in the co-main event of UFC 313 against Dan Hooker on March 8 in Las Vegas. It’s an intriguing matchup and with a win, Gaethje could get a title shot. If he does get a title shot, the current lightweight champ is Makhachev who Gaethje says is his dream fight.

He shared the Octagon with Gregory Rodrigues in the UFC Vegas 102 headliner. Cannonier got off to a shaky start, being dropped in the opening frame. “The Killa Gorilla” recovered, while Rodrigues faded. This was bad news for “Robocop,” as he ended up being finished in the fourth round via TKO.

Daniel Cormier is expecting some changes for Xtreme Couture following Sean Strickland’s UFC 312 loss. Strickland challenged Dricus du Plessis in a rematch for the UFC Middleweight Championship in Sydney, Australia in February. While their first encounter was competitive, Strickland had little to offer DDP in the rematch. Du Plessis was ahead of Strickland on the feet throughout the fight and even busted his nose.

Cannonier shared the Octagon with Gregory Rodrigues in the main event of UFC Vegas 102 this past Saturday night. The action was held inside the UFC Apex. “The Killa Gorilla” was in a world of trouble in the opening frame, as he was dropped by “Robocop.” Cannonier weathered the storm and gained the advantage as Rodrigues began to tire.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 102 event, and four fighters wound up taking home performance bonuses. The fight card was headlined by a middleweight bout featuring Jared Cannonier taking on Gregory Rodrigues. The contest resulted in an impressive fourth-round comeback win for former title challenger Jared Cannonier. After getting dropped and badly outpointed in the opening round, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ began to mount his comeback in the early stages of round two. After chopping away at the legs of Rodrigues and establishing his jab, Cannonier was able slow down the big man and eventually overwhelm his opponent on route to a fourth-round finish. It was a tremendous comeback and one that puts Cannonier right back in the mix at 185lbs.

UFC light-heavyweight contender Anthony Smith has given his side of the beef with Rampage Jackson. ‘Lionheart’ made headlines earlier this week by voicing frustrations with the former UFC champion’s podcast. Speaking on his own podcast, Anthony Smith took issue with Rampage Jackson’s habit of making fun of fighters behind their back, while being nice to their face. That led to a lengthy rant from the 46-year-old, who threatened to slap Smith next time he sees him.

Chael Sonnen is coming to the defense of Sean Strickland’s head coach Eric Nicksick. Nicksick surprised many within the MMA community with some brutal honesty on his working relationship with Strickland. Nicksick made the comments during his appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” On the program, Nicksick said that his job is to train world champions. He was adamant that Strickland needs to decide what he wants to do going forward. This was after Strickland suffered a one-sided loss to Dricus du Plessis in their UFC 312 rematch.
