Jared Cannonier has given his thoughts on a potential title match-up between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. At UFC 293 in September, Israel Adesanya was originally expected to take on Dricus du Plessis. However, with the South African not expected to be ready in time for the event, Adesanya has instead called out Sean Strickland.

Sean Strickland has responded to Israel Adesanya saying they will be fighting in Australia at UFC 293. Adesanya took to social media to announce that Dricus Du Plessis won’t be able to fight him at UFC 293 in Australia on September 9. He also claimed Strickland would be stepping in, but the American says in order for him to face Adesanya in September he needs to be paid accordingly.

Israel Adesanya has given his thoughts on critics calling him soft as he prepares to take on Sean Strickland at UFC 293. Following his win over Robert Whittaker, it seemed as if Dricus du Plessis was next in line for a UFC middleweight title shot. Unfortunately, it no longer appears as if that’s the case, as he won’t be ready in time to collide with Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in Australia.

Israel Adesanya says he won’t be fighting Dricus Du Plessis his next time out. At UFC 290, Du Plessis was fighting Robert Whittaker in a title-eliminator fight with the winner set to face Adesanya next. Ultimately, it was Dricus Du Plessis who won by second-round TKO in a phenomenal performance. After the win, Adesanya and Du Plessis had a faceoff and all signs pointed to the two fighting in Australia in September.

It was just last Saturday, July 1st that Sean Strickland (27-5 MMA) defeated Abus Magomedov (25-5 MMA) via TKO in the main event. That win moved Strickland to #7 in the UFC middleweight rankings.

Strickland entered the fight coming off a decision victory over Nassourdine Imavov, in a scrap he took on short notice. That fight got him back into the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to Jared Cannonier and Alex Pereira. Magomedov, meanwhile, was coming off a 19-second KO win over Dustin Stoltzfus in his UFC debut to earn a main event spot.

The highly anticipated middleweight bout resulted in a strong showing for Strickland. The American was able to weather an early storm from his Russian opponent, which included a brutal eye poke, and went on to overwhelm him with strikes. ‘Tarzan’ ultimately finished off a quickly-exhausted Magomedov with ground and pound in the late stages of round two.

Strickland has always been known for his brash words and controversial ideas which have caused many people to be offended by his comments. That trend has continued ahead of his UFC Vegas 76 main event against Abus Magomedov, as Strickland took aim at women saying they should be out of the workforce and just stay in the kitchen.

Sean Strickland has offered Marvin Vettori some advice following his lopsided decision loss to Jared Cannonier. Vettori entered the fight as the betting favorite, but after rocking Cannonier early, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ took over and dominated the rest of the scrap. It was a one-sided decision victory for Cannonier and after Vettori lost – which dropped him to 2-3 in his last five – Strickland shared some interesting advice for ‘The Italian Dream’.

Alex Pereira and Sean Strickland did end up sparring with one another. Pereira recently revealed that Strickland was going to Connecticut and the two were going to train and spar with one another. The Brazilian also planned to learn some trash talk and English from Strickland. Although the two are former opponents, both Pereira and Strickland seem kind to one another, and in the sparring video, the American made it clear to keep his hand up.
