UFC featherweight contender Brian Ortega has rediscovered his love for mixed martial arts as he prepares to return this weekend. Ortega will be stepping back into the Octagon for the first time in almost two years when he fights The Korean Zombie in their Fight Island main event on Saturday night. Ortega will be attempting to return to winning ways after his devastating loss at the hands of Max Holloway when the two battled over the UFC Featherweight Championship back in December 2018.

UFC legend Daniel Cormier believes it’s in long-time rival Jon Jones’ best interest to fight Israel Adesanya “sooner or later.” Cormier knows a thing-or-two about superfights, having been involved with two massive fights against Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title, not to mention three fights with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Cormier also knows a lot about timing and circumstance, something that has both helped and hurt him at times in his career. That’s why he thinks it’s in Jones’ best interest to go after the fight with Adesanya right now.

Brunson is currently the No. 7 middleweight in the UFC and he is coming off of one of the best wins of his career, a third-round TKO victory over top prospect Edmen Shahbazyan. Brunson is currently looking to make a run for the UFC middleweight title and was most recently seen calling out former title contender Paulo Costa for his next fight. But before getting ready for his next fight, Brunson had some personal business to take care of.

After Rafael dos Anjos fell out of his fight against Islam Makhachev, Abdelaziz offered Ferguson 100k to show and 100k to win if he would fight and beat Makhachev. However, according to Ferguson, he is not interested in the offer.

UFC middleweight Joaquin Buckley praised his opponent Impa Kasanganay after being on the wrong end of a highlight-reel spinning back kick KO. Buckley landed the kick heard all around the world during the preliminary card of this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Island 5 card. After catching the left leg of Buckley after he threw a body kick, Kasanganay was caught a split second later with a ridiculous jump spinning back kick from Buckley that stunned him and knocked him out cold. It was one of the most incredible knockouts of all time and made Buckley become an overnight viral sensation.

Dustin Poirier, the No. 2-ranked contender in the UFC lightweight division, has responded to a recent jab from Nate Diaz. Poirier has recently been linked to a potential rematch with Conor McGregor. “The Diamond” first met McGregor in the featherweight division in 2014, with McGregor winning that fight by first-round TKO. Since then, however, both men have achieved massive success in the lightweight division, and both have recently expressed interest in a rematch.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has some high praise for Impa Kasanganay, who fell victim to a highlight reel knockout at the hands of Joaquin Buckley last weekend. Kasanganay entered his fight with Buckley, which occured on the UFC Fight Island 5 undercard last weekend, with some buzz attached to his name after a big win over Anthony Adams on Contender Series and a victory over Maki Pitolo in his Octagon debut. In the end, however, he found himself on the receiving end of one of the most incredible knockouts in UFC history.

Cris Cyborg still hoping for cross-promotion rematch with Amanda Nunes

Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is still hoping for a cross-promotion rematch with UFC champion Amanda Nunes. Cyborg and Nunes met back at UFC 232 in December 2018. In a fight that lasted just 51 seconds, Nunes pulled off the upset when she knocked Cyborg out in the first round to hand the Brazilian her first loss in 13 years and win the women’s 145lbs title. The UFC attempted to book the rematch between Cyborg and Nunes but were not able to agree to terms. Cyborg was later released by the UFC after beating Felicia Spencer and has since become the 145lbs champ in Bellator, while Nunes is a two-division champion in the UFC.

Daniel Cormier had a brief skirmish with some fans on Twitter after suggesting we might see a Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor rematch soon. Nurmagomedov, the undefeated UFC lightweight champion, took on McGregor in October, 2018, successfully defending his title with a fourth-round submission win. The bout registered as the biggest in UFC history, and there’s been much talk of a rematch between the pair ever since.
