Sean O’Malley believes Dan Hooker deserves more recognition and popularity: “He should be more of a star”

Adam D Martin - October 10, 2021

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley believes that Dan Hooker deserves more recognition and popularity, saying “he should be more of a star.” Hooker recently fought and defeat Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266 under less-than-ideal circumstances. The UFC lightweight contender got his visa on incredibly short notice, but despite the circumstances, he went out there and put on an incredible performance. A few days after that, Hooker decided to step up and take the fight that no one else wants. He will now fight Islam Makhachev at UFC 267 later this month. The fact that he is stepping up on short notice to fight someone like Makhachev shows how much of a stud that he is, and his fellow UFC fighters, such as O’Malley, have nothing but respect for what Hooker’s doing.

Joe Rogan reacts after Tyson Fury KO’s Deontay Wilder in trilogy: “All hail the Gypsy King”

Adam D Martin - October 10, 2021

UFC analyst Joe Rogan reacted after Tyson Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder in trilogy their trilogy, stating “all hail the Gypsy King.” In one of the craziest heavyweight boxing matches of all time, Fury knocked out Wilder in the 11th round after a back-and-forth fight where both fighters were knocked down several times. It was an incredible war between two of the best heavyweight boxers we have ever seen, but at the end of the fight, it was Fury getting his hand raised yet again. Fury is now 2-0-1 overall in the trilogy against Wilder and he’s proven that he is the better man. But regardless of Fury being the better boxer, Wilder certainly proved his toughness in the trilogy fight. It was an amazing fight and after, Rogan had nothing but good things to say.

Randy Brown wants fines increased for missing weight following opponent's weigh-in fail at UFC Vegas 39

Adam D Martin - October 8, 2021

UFC welterweight Randy Brown wants to see the fines increased for missing weight following his opponent’s weigh-in fail before UFC Vegas 39. Brown stepped onto the scale at 170.5lbs, a shade under the 171lbs non-title welterweight limit at Friday’s UFC Vegas 39 weigh-ins, but his opponent failed to make the weight. Jared Gooden stepped onto the scale at 174lbs, and Brown then had to decide whether or not to accept the fight. He ultimately decided that he would take the fight as planned, with a 20% purse fine for Gooden. That means Brown will get 20% of Gooden’s purse win or lose. However, Gooden is still a relative newcomer to the UFC, so the extra money isn’t much.

Rob Font confirms UFC offered him interim bantamweight title shot before Cory Sandhagen

Adam D Martin - October 8, 2021

One of the top contenders at 135lbers, Rob Font confirmed that the UFC offered him a bantamweight title shot before Cory Sandhagen. Petr Yan was expected to fight UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, in a rematch for the 135lbs belt at UFC 267 later this year. However, Sterling was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a lingering neck injury. In his place, the UFC called upon Sandhagen, and he will fight Yan for the interim belt later this month. Sandhagen is coming off of a loss to TJ Dillashaw, but Dillashaw was not able to fight this month because he was banged up in that fight. So despite the loss, the UFC called Sandhagen for the title shot.

Georges St-Pierre weighs in on the performance of Nick Diaz at UFC 266: “For sure he was rusty”

Adam D Martin - October 8, 2021

UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre weighed in on the performance of Nick Diaz at UFC 266, saying that “for sure he was rusty.” After more than six years away from the Octagon, Diaz returned to the Octagon last month when he fought rival Robbie Lawler in a rematch that was 17 years in the making. After Diaz knocked out Lawler back at UFC 47 in 2004, the two rematched all these years later, with Diaz losing in the third round via TKO. It was a good performance overall by both fighters, who were praised by UFC president Dana White for their war, but Diaz still didn’t do enough to get his hand raised. If you ask St-Pierre, ring rust played a factor in that.

Scott Coker says he would "love" to have Jake Paul and Logan Paul in Bellator

Adam D Martin - October 8, 2021

Bellator president Scott Coker says that he would “love” to have the Paul brothers, Jake Paul and Logan Paul, competing in Bellator. Coker was a guest on MMAFighting.com’s The MMA Hour earlier this week, and one of the questions he was asked by host Ariel Helwani was about the Paul brothers. When asked if Bellator has any interest in bringing the brothers aboard the organization, Coker admitted that he is interested in signing them. As far as Coker is concerned, both the Paul brothers are hard workers who are putting in the work and improving. That’s why Coker said he would love to have them come to Bellator should either of them make the move to MMA.

Mackenzie Dern says she has her eye on Valentina Shevchenko with future flyweight move

Adam D Martin - October 8, 2021

UFC women’s strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern says she has her eye on Valentina Shevchenko with a future move to the flyweight division. Dern returns to the Octagon this Saturday night when she faces off against Marina Rodriguez in a women’s strawweight bout that serves as the five-round headliner of UFC Vegas 39. For Dern, she is 6-1 in the UFC and she is currently ranked at No. 4 in the 115lbs weight class. If she is able to go out there and beat Rodriguez, there is certainly a chance that Dern could earn herself a title shot. Right now, her goal is to be the best strawweight in the world, so a win over Rodriguez would help get her to the top of the weight class, where the belt is currently held by the 115lbs champion, Rose Namajunas.
