Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas’ first encounter at UFC 261 in April became a lot more political than anticipated. Ahead of the strawweight title clash, Namajunas gave an interview to Lithuanian media where she expressed her thoughts on her background along with Zhang’s ultimately leading to her “better dead than red” comments.

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley reacted after Jon Jones got arrested in Las Vegas, saying that “you can’t beat on your boo.” Jones was arrested two weeks ago in Las Vegas, just hours after his 2013 classic with Alexander Gustafsson was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Jones was arrested on charges of domestic battery after an incident with his fiancee, Jessie Moses, as well as damaging a police car. Since the arrest happened, the reaction towards Jones has generally been negative, as this is far from the first time that he has gotten in trouble with the law.

UFC women’s strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern promised the Marina Rodriguez fight will be better than Johnny Walker vs. Thiago Santos. Dern takes on Rodriguez in the five-round women’s 115lbs headliner of this Saturday’s UFC Vegas 39 card. This is an important fight in the division as both Dern and Rodriguez are closing in on a title shot, so an impressive win could very well earn them a crack at the belt. But more than anything, Dern says she just wants to put on a good fight for the fans.

Jared Vanderaa didn’t expect his next opponent to be Alexandr Romanov. After Vanderaa picked up his first UFC win back in May against Justin Tafa, Vanderaa wasn’t sure who would be next for him. However, when he was offered Romanov he was surprised but he did immediately accept it.

UFC light heavyweight contender Johnny Walker was “scared as hell” against Thiago Santos at UFC Vegas 38, says his opponent’s coach. In what was expected to be a slugfest between two Brazilian KO artists, the fight was anything but. Both Walker and Santos were content to stand on the outside and essentially spar for five rounds, with Santos earning a unanimous decision victory at the end of the 25 minutes. It was not the fight that the fans expected and many of them took to social media to vent their complaints following the fight. But while many have put the blame on Santos for making it a tactical fight, his coach believes that it is actually Walker’s fault that it was.

UFC lightweight contender Dan Hooker can thwart the wrestling of elite grappler Islam Makhachev at UFC 267, says his coach, Frank Hickman. When Rafael dos Anjos fell off of the UFC 267 card with an injury, Hooker stepped up on short notice to take on Makhachev, who is considered one of the most feared fighters in the UFC lightweight division. Just a week after he beat Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266, Hooker accepted the fight with Makhachev for the end of October on Fight Island. The oddsmakers are not particularly high on Hooker’s chances in the matchup, as he’s a big underdog.

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov doubled down on his ring girl comments in wake of the recent backlash against him. Nurmagomedov made the controversial comments back in August when he was asked if his own promotion, the Eagle Fighting Championship, would feature ring card girls. According to “The Eagle,” he views ring card girls as pointless and said his promotion will not feature them. After saying these comments, there were many fans, fighters, and media who shot back at Nurmagomedov for what he said. But he says that he stands by his comments.

UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje explained how “special circumstances” should have resulted in him fighting for the vacant lightweight title. Gaethje lost via second-round submission to former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov a year ago at UFC 254. Following the fight, however, “The Eagle” announced that he was retiring from combat sports and he vacated his belt. While many thought that Gaethje would get the first crack at the vacant belt, the UFC instead chose to go with Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler, instead. The two lightweights met in the main event of UFC 262 back in May, with Oliveira winning the belt via second-round TKO.

TJ Dillashaw has doubts that UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will be able to return after his recent neck surgery. The top of the bantamweight division has been an interesting place for many months now ever since Sterling won the belt from Petr Yan via disqualification. We were scheduled to see the rematch later this month but as a result of Sterling pulling out due to lingering issues following neck surgery, Yan will now fight Cory Sandhagen for the interim strap.

Daniel Cormier has given his thoughts on Henry Cejudo’s potential shot at becoming the UFC’s first ever three-weight champion. There are a handful of fighters who have been able to call themselves two-weight world champions in the UFC and even fewer who have held the two belts at the same time. Cormier and Cejudo both fall into the latter of those categories, but neither has been able to turn the two straps into three.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate decided to hold Aspen Ladd’s coach Jim West “accountable” for his recent remarks. If you recall, Tate had lashed out at West’s pupil in Ladd last week, this after she failed to make weight for her slated fight with Macy Chiasson at UFC Vegas 38.

Tyson Fury says he’d force Tommy Fury to change his last name if he loses to Jake Paul if they were to box. Tommy is Tyson’s half-brother and is also a boxer but is also a social media star after he went on Love Island. Although he is a Fury, he’s only 7-0 and the level of competition has not been the best. However, he has been linked to a fight with Paul and if it happens and if Tommy loses, Tyson says he’d force his brother to retire.

Tyson Fury is excited to share the ring with Deontay Wilder again as he generally doesn’t like him. Fury and Wilder first met in 2018 with the fight ending in a draw. They then had their rematch in February of 2020 where Fury dominated the fight and earned a TKO win. Now, ahead of their trilogy match on Saturday in Las Vegas, Fury says Wilder is a piece of s**t and plans to KO him again.

Jake Paul has upped his offer to Tommy Fury. In the lead-up to Paul’s fight against Tyron Woodley, he had Fury on the undercard and many expected that if they both won they would box each other. Although they both win, the fight is still not done, as Paul offered Fury $1 million for the fight which Fury turned down.

UFC legend BJ Penn has confirmed his intention to run for Governor of Hawaii following some suggestive posts on social media. Penn, 42, a former two-division UFC champion, hinted at making a run for office earlier this week. Now, in an interview with his manager Chris Taylor, ‘The Prodigy’ confirmed his intentions to run for governor in his native Hawaii.

Charles Rosa believes he has finally put everything together ahead of his UFC Vegas 39 fight against Damon Jackson. After Rosa returned to the win column in June against Justin Jaynes, he said he wanted to return in October or November and he got his wish.

Tim Elliott is now in a place where he doesn’t have to take any fight that comes his way, and that is what happened when Su Mudaerji pulled out of their fight in June. After his opponent pulled out, Elliott was offered Manel Kape on short notice which he turned down as for him, he only wants ranked guys. He also says he’s in a position now where he is being smart about his career and not taking any fight that comes his way.
