UFC men’s flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo wants his next title defense to come against Kai Kara-France. Kara-France (24-9 MMA) extended his current win streak to three in a row this evening in Columbus, scoring a unanimous decision victory over #2 ranked flyweight contender Askar Askarov.

The Octagon invaded Ohio for tonight’s UFC Columbus event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Curtis Blaydes vs. Chris Daukaus. The highly anticipated heavyweight main event proved to be a short lived affair. To the surprise of many, Curtis Blaydes did not shoot for a single takedown in tonight’s event headliner. Instead, ‘Razor’ decided to showcase his improved striking skills, outpointing Daukaus on the feet in the opening five minutes. Then, at the start of round two, Blaydes landed a huge punch that sent Daukaus crashing down to the canvas. Curtis quickly pounced on his wounded opponent and promptly finished the fight off with ground and pound.

Nate Diaz has made a formal request to Dana White and Hunter Campbell asking to be released by the UFC. Diaz (20-13 MMA) has not competed since UFC 263, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards in a welterweight bout. The Stockton native nearly finished the British fighter in round five of that contest, but wound up being handed the loss after being badly outpointed in the first four rounds of the fight.

Demetrious Johnson seemingly thinks that Jake Paul should fight in MMA. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has spent the majority of his boxing career calling out MMA fighters. On that front, he’s actually faced two of them in the ring, defeating both Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. His most recent outing was a knockout victory over ‘The Chosen One’ in December.

It’s safe to say that Darren Till is high on Tom Aspinall. In addition to thinking his countryman will become a champion, he also thinks he defeats Jon Jones. Aspinall competed last weekend at UFC London against Alexander Volkov. The 28-year-old defeated his Russian counterpart via first-round submission. For his efforts, he earned a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus and shot up the heavyweight rankings. Following the bout, he called out Tai Tuivasa for a matchup next.

Henry Cejudo and Conor McGregor have taken to Twitter in a war of words. Could it be that Cejudo is adding himself to the list of fighters that are waiting in line for The Irishman to return to the Octagon. ‘Triple C’ (16-2 MMA) last fought in May of 2020 at UFC 249 defeating Dominick Cruz (24-3 MMA) by second round TKO to defend the bantamweight title. Following that bout, Cejudo announced his retirement from mixed martial arts, but has since indicated his wish to get back in the cage this year.

Ben Askren has reacted after Jorge Masvidal attempted to clarify a previous threat he had made about ending his bloodline. It was Ben Askren (19-2 MMA) vs Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA) at UFC 239 back in July of 2019. In the fastest and perhaps most violent knockout in the history of the UFC, it was ‘Gamebred’ who came out victorious at the 0:05 mark of the opening round.

Joe Rogan doesn’t like Conor McGregor’s callout of Kamaru Usman. With McGregor rehabbing the broken leg he sustained in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier, he had said he was going to walk into a lightweight title shot. Yet, as he continued to rehab and lift weights he got bigger and now he said he wants to fight Usman in his return as he attempts to become the first-ever three-weight world champion. However, Rogan doesn’t think it is a good idea for the Irishman.

Matt Brown wasn’t sure he was going to get the hometown fight at UFC Columbus. When the promotion announced they were heading back to Columbus, Brown immediately asked Sean Shelby to get him on the card. However, the UFC matchmaker told him the card was full which shocked Brown as he is one of the only fighters from Columbus on the roster.
