The news came despite the fact that ‘Chaos’ hasn’t fought in over a year since he defeated Jorge Masvidal. Edwards, meanwhile, is coming off the back of consecutive victories over Kamaru Usman.

The UFC finally returned to Miami, Florida on Saturday for UFC 287 which saw the middleweight title up for grabs. In the main event, Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya were having their rematch in MMA while fighting for the fourth time in combat sports. The two fought back in November at UFC 281 with Pereira scoring a fifth-round comeback TKO win to become the new champ. It was also the third time he beat Adesanya in combat sports. The co-main event of UFC 287 saw Gilbert Burns take on Jorge Masvidal.

Prior to his return, Masvidal admitted that a loss to ‘Durinho’ would likely end his MMA career.

In the co-main event of the pay-per-view card, Masvidal was looking to snap his three-fight losing skid as he took on Burns in a crucial fight. In the end, it was Burns who won a clear-cut decision but what made storylines was after the fight was the Brazilian accusing Masvidal of greasing.
