UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski believes he’ll finish Islam Makhachev on Saturday. ‘The Great’ is in a position that he didn’t expect him to be in. Last defeating Yair Rodriguez in July, Alexander Volkanovski was reportedly expected to face Ilia Topuria in January. However, due to an injury to Charles Oliveira, he will step in on short notice to face Islam Makhachev this weekend.

Darren Till is the latest to take aim at the boxing match between Logan Paul and Dillon Danis. On Saturday night, ‘The Maverick’ and ‘El Jefe’ collided in the co-main event of KSI vs. Tommy Fury. In the build to the fight, Logan Paul and Dillon Danis were heated, and both promised knockout victories. Instead, those such as Darren Till who were in attendance were left waiting for a blow that never came.

Dillon Danis will be appealing the DQ loss he suffered to Logan Paul on Saturday. Danis made his boxing debut against Paul on the PRIME card in Manchester, England. It was a fight that got a ton of hype due to Danis’ trash talk and antics. However, in the bout itself, Danis rarely threw many punches as Paul dominated and was cruising to a decision win.

As we now know, Charles Oliveira will not be competing against Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 for the UFC middleweight championship. Instead, Alexander Volkanovski will take his place as a result of Oliveira sustaining a nasty cut in training.

Following on from his win over Robert Whittaker, it seemed as if Dricus du Plessis was destined to be the next man in line to fight Israel Adesanya for the UFC middleweight championship. Alas, it didn’t quite work out that way. Instead, Sean Strickland battled and beat Adesanya at UFC 293 after du Plessis was unable to make a quick turnaround.

When talking about some of the biggest combat sports stars outside of MMA and boxing, Gordon Ryan has to be located towards the top of that list. Ryan has spent years carving out a name for himself as a fantastic grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu sensation, and he’s finally starting to gain some recognition for that. In addition, he’s also taking a few steps forward into the limelight elsewhere, most recently by backing up Logan Paul for his boxing match against Dillon Danis.

Michel Pereira thinks it’s already time for him to enter the top 15 UFC middleweight rankings. Pereira was forced to move up to 185 pounds after missing weight for a scheduled UFC 291 welterweight bout with Stephen Thompson. The fight was called off after Thompson refused to fight Pereira for not fulfilling the terms of the bout agreement. Pereira was matched up with Andre Petroski for the main card of UFC Vegas 81.

UFC title contender Paulo Costa is not a fan of how USADA operates. Massive news dropped in the world of MMA when USADA CEO Travis Tygart announced that the agency and UFC would no longer be partners in January 2024. This split has been anything but cordial, as USADA insinuated that Conor McGregor and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan may have helped make the relationship “untenable.” UFC EVP and CBO Hunter Campbell has threatened legal action against USADA over Tygart’s statement.

UFC featherweight titleholder Alex Volkanovski has his plans set for the short-notice rematch against UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Volkanovski stepped up to the plate after Charles Oliveira was pulled from a planned championship rematch with Makhachev at UFC 294. Oliveira suffered a nasty cut on his eyebrow during a sparring session. The cut was bad enough that “do Bronx” wasn’t cleared to fight in Abu Dhabi.

Jake Paul has put Dillon Danis on blast for his antics during the Logan Paul fight. Fans of the influencer boxing craze were highly anticipating the grudge match between Danis and Paul. “El Jefe” and “The Maverick” were far from chummy going into their October 14 battle in Manchester Arena. It was quite clear that Danis didn’t have an answer for Paul’s ability to keep him at bay with his reach advantage. Danis had trouble stringing together any sort of meaningful offense.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has some words of encouragement for Israel Adesanya. Adesanya recently announced that he will be taking a hiatus from pro MMA competition. “Izzy” dropped the UFC Middleweight Championship to Sean Strickland in a shocking upset back in September. It was then revealed that Adesanya was caught drunk driving in New Zealand just a few weeks before the fight. During an appearance on The Rock FM, “The Last Stylebender” said that while he will not be retiring, he is going to take a break from the fight game to heal and refocus.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC Vegas 81 event, an eleven-bout fight card headlined by Sodiq Yusuff vs. Edson Barboza. The highly anticipated featherweight main event resulted in an absolutely thrilling war. Sodiq Yusuff almost finished the contest in round one, but Edson Barboza battled back to turn the tide in rounds two through five, even scoring a sensation spinning heel kick (see that here). After twenty-five minutes of action, Barboza was awarded the unanimous decision victory.

UFC hires former Saddam Hussein investigator to lead post-USADA drug testing program

George Piro has been appointed to help lead the UFC’s post-USADA drug testing future. Earlier this week, the UFC and USADA announced that they will part ways in 2024. The announcement came along with a statement that Conor McGregor had entered the testing pool. In their statement, the testing program hinted that due to issues with ‘The Notorious’ getting an exemption waiver led to a parting of ways.
