It isn’t looking like Israel Adesanya will be featured on the UFC 300 card. Fight fans are eagerly anticipating the historic event, which is set to take place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 13. While the card is shaping up quite nicely with some marquee fights, many believe the missing ingredient is a strong main event.

It’s no secret that UFC 297 headliner Sean Strickland speaks his mind, and he caused some controversy ahead of the event with his past comments on the LGBT community. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan wasn’t at the booth for UFC 297, but he definitely was paying attention to the main event. In the headliner, Dricus Du Plessis challenged Sean Strickland for the UFC Middleweight Championship. This one went the distance and after five rounds of competitive and bloody action, it was Du Plessis who was awarded the split nod. He is now the new UFC middleweight titleholder.

Du Plessis has now become a target after capturing the UFC Middleweight Championship from Sean Strickland at UFC 297. It was a hard-fought split decision win for “DDP,” who is now hoping to settle his feud with Israel Adesanya. “Izzy,” who is on hiatus, responded to Du Plessis’ post-fight callout on his Instagram Stories with a thumbs up.

Last night at UFC 297, Mike Malott seemed to be on his way to a comprehensive decision win over Neil Magny. However, in the final minute or so of the fight, everything changed. Malott began to fatigue massively, opening the door for Magny to pounce and eventually finish Malott via TKO. It was a crazy end to the contest, and it ensured that male Canadian fighters went winless in Toronto.

The Octagon returned to Toronto for tonight’s UFC 297 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Sean Strickland vs. Dricus Du Plessis. The highly anticipated middleweight title fight proved to be an epic back and forth affair. Sean Strickland had a great opening round, busting up the left eye of the challenger with a flurry of jabs. However, Dricus Du Plessis was able to turn the tide in rounds two and three, using his pace and forward pressure to get a slight edge on the American. After a highly productive fourth round, most fans and analysts had the fight either 3-1 for Du Plessis or all tied up at 2-2 headed into the fifth and final round. Although ‘Tarzan’ seemingly got the better of the South African in Round 5, it did not prove to be enough to retain the middleweight championship.

The original plan was to have the pair fight at December’s UFC 296 event, but the bout was ultimately pushed back due to various reasons.
