Edgar and Munhoz met in the main event of UFC on ESPN 15 this past Saturday night in Las Vegas. After five closely contested rounds, Edgar walked away—actually hobbled away thanks to Munhoz’s leg kicks—with a controversial split decision victory.

UFC women’s flyweight Shana Dobson earned the biggest upset in UFC history when she finished Mariya Agapova at UFC on ESPN 15. After surviving a tough first round from a super-aggressive Agapova, Dobson was able to take over in the second round after Agapova began to tire from expending too much energy in the first. Sensing that momentum in the fight was changing, Dobson capitalized on her fatigued opponent as she was able to gain a dominant position on Agapova on the ground and rain down punches until the referee stepped in for the TKO victory.

UFC middleweight contender Kevin Holland announced his next fight against “The Dentist” Darren Stewart with a visit to his dentist’s office. Holland took to social media to announce that he will be fighting Stewart at the UFC Fight Night card on September 19 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The headliner for that event was officially announced this weekend by the UFC as welterweight contenders Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley will meet in a five-round grudge match. Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum says he’s interested in rematches with Brandon Vera and Fedor Emelianenko. Werdum recently became a free agent following a stunning first-round submission win over Alexander Gustafsson on Fight Island. The Brazilian is now shopping for the best offers on the open market, and he has been connected to both Bellator and ONE Championship. Of course, there’s still a small possibility he could still re-up with the UFC, but at this point, all signs are pointing to Werdum signing with one of the UFC’s rival promotions.

UFC bantamweight contender Pedro Munhoz questioned the judges in his split decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC on ESPN 15. Munhoz dropped a split decision to Edgar, with two judges scoring it 48-47 Edgar and one scoring it 49-46 Munhoz. It was a highly controversial decision, with the majority of the media scoring the bout in favor of Munhoz. Nevertheless, the three people that mattered had a split decision in favor of Edgar and so Munhoz takes the loss on his record.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards took a shot at Jorge Masvidal, saying his “Street Jesus” persona is just a marketing ploy. Edwards and Masvidal have butted heads on social media for several months now, and the rivalry doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon. Both men are ranked in the top-five of the UFC welterweight division and are hoping to land a rematch against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who previously defeated both men. So it makes sense that these two be paired up at some point in a potential welterweight title eliminator.

Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader has released a statement following his brutal TKO loss to Vadim Nemkov. Bader saw his eight-fight unbeaten streak snapped at the hands of Nemkov, who brutally finished Bader in stunning fashion in the main event of Bellator 244. After dropping Bader with a high kick, Nemkov was able to unload punches until the referee was forced to step in and stop the fight, crowning Nemkov as the new Bellator light heavyweight champion.

The UFC made it official this weekend that Covington and Woodley will throw down on September 19. The two will meet in a five-round main event at a UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas. For these two rivals who have been champing at the bit to punch each other in the face for the last few years, this matchup has been a long time coming, to say the least.

UFC president Dana White reacted to the news that boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya is coming out of retirement. De La Hoya, who is now 47, recently announced that he is making a comeback to boxing after 12 years away from competing. His last fight came in 2008 when he was stopped via corner stoppage to Manny Pacquiao. Since then he has been a promoter for Golden Boy, which has held both boxing and MMA events. Although he’s getting up there in age now, the fire to fight again still burns deep inside him, and that’s why he wants to fight again.

A middleweight scrap between Andreas Michailidis (12-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Antonio Arroyo (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is slated for later this fall, sources with knowledge of the situation told BJPENN.com. The sources asked for anonymity since the news hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. No word yet on the official location, but the two 185-pound fighters are expected to lock horns on November 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the UFC APEX facility.

The UFC has officially confirmed three main events for September including a welterweight bout between Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley. On September 5, Alistair Overeem looks to continue his march towards a heavyweight title shot when he taking on the surging Augusto Sakai. On September 12, two of the best light heavyweights in the UFC in Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos go at it. And on September 19, the grudge match between Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley finally goes down. All three of these UFC cards are set to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier reacted to the news from UFC president Dana White that he is “probably” next for Tony Ferguson. Poirier and Ferguson are both top-five lightweights in the UFC and both men are currently without an opponent for their next fight. Poirier is coming off of a huge win over Dan Hooker back in June in a “Fight of the Year” candidate, while Ferguson is coming off of a TKO loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 in a failed bid to become the interim lightweight champion. Despite that loss, Ferguson remains an elite fighter at 155lbs.

Edgar was able to edge out a split decision over Munhoz is a closely-contested fight that went the full 25 minutes. Both men were able to land big shots on each other over the course of the five rounds, but when it was all over two of the judges sided with Edgar and gave him the victory over Munhoz in what was his official UFC bantamweight debut.

UFC president Dana White cleared the air on the promotion’s bantamweight title picture following the Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz fight. In a highly controversial split decision that left many fans and media scratching their heads, Edgar was able to edge out the victory over Munhoz to put himself on the map in a third weight class in his UFC career. Some suggested that the win means Edgar could jump ahead of the other top contenders at 135lbs like Aljamain Sterling for the next title shot against UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, but White shot down those suggestions.
