Ovince Saint Preux vs. Alonzo Menifield cancelled last minute

Tonight’s UFC on ESPN 15 fight card just took a major hit as the scheduled co-main event between Ovince Saint Preux and Alonzo Menifield has been called off. Saint Preux (24-14 MMA) tested positive and negative for the Coronavirus during fight week, before a positive test this morning ruled out his ability to compete at the event.

Former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo is not letting up on Sean O’Malley following “Suga’s” first career loss. O’Malley squared off with Marlon Vera in the co-headliner of last weekend’s UFC 252 pay-per-view event. The highly anticipated fight did not last long, this after the budding UFC star suffered a knee injury which assisted ‘Chito’ in earning a first-round finish.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones reacted to Ryan Bader’s knockout loss to Vadim Nemkov at Friday night’s Bellator 244 event. Jones was all over the news this week after the surprise announcement that he was vacating the UFC light heavyweight title. In the wake of Jones giving up his belt, there have been suggestions that Bader was briefly the new top dog at 205lbs, and Bellator president Scott Coker even said that Bellator had a better light heavyweight division than the UFC with Bader as the champ.

Vadim Nemkov is the new Bellator light heavyweight champion after a stunning second-round TKO win over Ryan Bader at Bellator 244. Nemkov met Bader in the main event of this Friday’s Bellator 244 event. Bader was unbeaten over his last eight fights while Nemkov was riding a six-fight win streak entering the bout. The oddsmakers pegged it as a competitive bout but with the edge to Bader as the favorite owing to his standing as a double champion in Bellator.

UFC on ESPN 15, which goes down this Saturday inside the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, has lost two fights at the last minute. According to a report from Nolan King of MMA Junkie, an undercard bout between Dwight Grant and Calen Born was canceled after Born missed the UFC on ESPN 15 weigh-ins due to undisclosed personal reasons.

Edgar began his UFC career in the lightweight division, where he ultimately became the champion by defeating BJ Penn. Several years later, he dropped down to the featherweight division, where he contended for the title multiple times against Jose Aldo and Max Holloway.

On Saturday night, the UFC will return to our screens with the under-the-radar UFC on ESPN 15 card out of the Apex facility in Las Vegas. Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk shot down retirement rumors, saying that her goal is to be the champion again. Jedrzejczyk last competed in March at UFC 248 against Weili Zhang. In one of the greatest MMA fights of all time, the two warriors went the full 25 minutes with Zhang winning a split decision. They later shared a moment in the hospital. It was an incredible fight, one of the best ever, and despite losing on paper, Jedrzejczyk’s stock arguably rose despite the loss.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and his next opponent Paulo Costa had a heated back-and-forth on ESPN’s SportsCenter this week. Ahead of their fight, which will headline the UFC 253 card in September, both fighters are riding victories over the extremely dangerous Yoel Romero. Costa defeated Romero in a wild fire-fight last August, while Adesanya edged by the Cuban in a slow but tense affair in March.

According to a report from MMA Junkie, Ryan Hall has been forced to pull out of his fight with Ricardo Lamas on August 29. The unique featherweight contender’s reason for withdrawing has not yet been disclosed, with the UFC not yet making an announcement regarding the change to the card. Lamas is still interested in fighting someone else at the UFC APEX event, but due to COVID-19 and the short notice drop out, that could prove to be quite difficult.
