Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is retired from fighting, but not coaching. ‘The Eagle’ is one of the more interesting figures in MMA history. Holding a 29-0 undefeated record, Khabib Nurmagomedov is the rare athlete to retire in his prime. Due to the death of his father, the Russian retired after a second-round submission win over Justin Gaethje in 2020.

UFC CEO Dana White had promised to make UFC 300 a historic card, and many fans wondered if the promotion would get someone back like they did for Brock Lesnar at UFC 200. Ultimately, that didn’t happen, but former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed the promotion did reach out to his manager but he quickly shot it down as he confirmed he won’t fight again.

At the top of the billing, were lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Conor McGregor. Leading into the event, the two stars were in a heated feud, that would continue for years beyond that night in 2019.

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier has revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov turned down $40 million dollars to fight again. ‘The Eagle’ has been firmly in retirement since a 2020 submission win over Justin Gaethje. Sitting at an undefeated 29-0, Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement following the victory. Largely thanks to the death of his father, the Russian decided that he would never fight in the cage again.

Even when Nurmagomedov became the champ and beat the likes of Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, Kevin Lee still insisted he saw holes in Nurmagomedov’s game but wouldn’t say what it was.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is still coaching his fighters, according to Javier Mendez. Back in January, it was revealed that Nurmagomedov was retiring from coaching and being involved in MMA completely. This came after he was serving as a coach for the likes of Islam Makhachev and Umar Nurmagomedov among others and having success doing so.

The build-up was full of trash talk and in the fight, it was Nurmagomedov who won by fourth-round submission.
