Report | UFC 261 sold over 700k pay-per-view buys domestically in the United States

A recent report suggests that Saturday night’s UFC 261 event sold over 700,000 PPV buys domestically in the United States. The showcase featured three title fights and also marked the return of fans to the arena after more than a year of them not being able to attend.

It served as their rematch from last July where Usman won a decision. Although the result was disappointing for “Gamebred” he says he still has the fire to compete in him.

The UFC returned to a full capacity crowd on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida for UFC 261. The card saw three title fights as Kamaru Usman rematched Jorge Masvidal, Weili Zhang took on Rose Namajunas, and Valentina Shevchenko battled Jessica Andrade. The event was one of the better ones in recent memory and one title ended up changing hands. In the main event, Usman defended his belt with a second-round KO over Masvidal. Namajunas became the strawweight champ with a first-round KO over Zhang, and to no surprise, Shevchenko defended her strap with a TKO win over Andrade.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards scolded Jorge Masvidal over his knockout loss to Kamaru Usman at Saturday night’s UFC 261 event. Edwards and Masvidal got into a backstage skirmish a few years ago at UFC London, which is where the legendary “three piece and a soda” line came from. The two welterweight contenders have continued to talk trash to each other on social media and in interviews over the last couple of years, but up to this point they haven’t had the chance to settle their differences in the Octagon. It’s possible that could happen in the near futurue.

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman reacted to his follow up shots on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261: “You know, those were super necessary.” Usman landed a right hand out of hell on the chin of Masvidal early in the second round that dropped “Gamebred” to the floor. Masvidal then rushed to the ground and landed several follow-up shots that left Masvidal on the ground cold. It was a nasty knockout, with the initial knockdown being brutal enough before the punches on the ground really put an end to Masvidal’s night as the champion Usman picked up yet another brutal knockout win.
