Jose Aldo open to fighting TJ Dillashaw next: "It's a great fight for both of us"

Adam D Martin - November 30, 2021

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is open to fighting TJ Dillashaw next, saying that “it’s a great fight for both of us.” Aldo takes on Rob Font this Saturday in the main event of UFC Vegas 44. The fight could potentially earn the winner a title shot at the UFC bantamweight belt sometime in 2022, but the timing might be an issue. The problem is, UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is currently injured, and when he does come back, he needs to unify his belt against interim champ Petr Yan first. In the meantime, former champion TJ Dillashaw is also out there and also hoping to get a title shot sometime in 2022. It is a complicated situation right now, but Aldo isn’t sweating it as he is open to taking another fight.

Jose Aldo criticizes Paulo Costa over recent weight miss: "It's a lack of respect"

Adam D Martin - November 11, 2021

Former UFC featherweight champion and current bantamweight contender Jose Aldo criticized Paulo Costa over his recent weight miss. Costa was supposed to fight Marvin Vettori last month in a middleweight bout that headlined UFC Vegas 41, but Costa showed up to fight week heavy. The fight was later turned into a light heavyweight contest, while Vettori won by decision. Although it was an awesome fight, the fact that Costa missed weight put a bit of a damper on his performance. Speaking to MMAFighting.com’s Guilherme Cruz in a recent interview, Aldo panned his fellow Brazilian for showing up to fight Vettori heavy and off weight.

Jose Aldo welcomes new challengers: "Let's fight!"

Adam D Martin - September 23, 2021

Former UFC featherweight champion and current bantamweight title contender Jose Aldo welcomed new challengers, saying to them “Let’s fight!” Aldo last fought at UFC 265 in August when he won a unanimous decision over fellow Brazilian Pedro Munhoz. It was Aldo’s second straight win at 135lbs following a decision nod over Marlon Vera last year. Following the win over Munhoz, Aldo used his post-fight interview as an opportunity to call out former bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw. However, it appears as if Dillashaw is banged up and likely won’t be able to fight before the end of the year. If it’s Aldo’s goal to step back into the cage before 2021 is up, then he will likely have to fight someone else instead, and that’s why he is now welcoming new challengers.

Jose Aldo shares motivational quote following UFC career revival: "Don't give up on your dreams"

Adam D Martin - August 25, 2021

Top bantamweight contender Jose Aldo shared a motivational quote following his UFC career revival, saying “don’t give up on your dreams.” Aldo’s career appeared to be coming to a screeching halt just last year following a brutal fifth-round TKO defeat to Petr Yan at UFC 251. It was a devastating loss for Aldo, who had lost to Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Moraes before that for a three-fight losing skid. You could forgive fans for thinking that Aldo’s career was on a huge decline given his losing skid between 2019 and 2020, but the Brazilian proved that he is a legend once again by bouncing back in his last two outings with wins over Pedro Munhoz and Marlon Vera at 135.

Jose Aldo says he will "never" rematch Conor McGregor in the UFC

Adam D Martin - August 20, 2021

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo says he will “never” have a rematch against his former rival Conor McGregor in the Octagon. Aldo and McGregor met in the main event of UFC 194 in December 2015, with McGregor knocking Aldo out in 13 seconds to become the new UFC 145lbs champion. In the years since then, we have heard some chatter about a potential rematch between these two, but if you ask the Brazilian, he has no interest in fighting the Irishman again. As far as Aldo is concerned, McGregor is fighting at 155 and 170lbs now, while Aldo is established at 135lbs. Speaking to MMAFighting.com’s Guilherme Cruz, Aldo shot down a McGregor rematch.

Kenny Florian praises "master of mixed martial arts" Jose Aldo for UFC career revival: "He will go down as one of the GOATs"

Adam D Martin - August 18, 2021

Kenny Florian praised his former opponent Jose Aldo, calling him a “master of mixed martial arts” for his UFC career resurgence at age 34. A year ago at this time, Aldo was riding a three-fight losing skid to Marlon Moraes, Alexander Volkanovski, and Petr Yan. It made some observers of the sport feel as though he was in a huge decline, especially after seeing him get brutally stopped by Yan at UFC 251. However, since that three-fight losing skid, Aldo has looked better than ever. Now established as a bantamweight, the former UFC featherweight champion has won his last two fights against top contenders Marlon Vera and Pedro Munhoz. He looks better than ever at 34 and recently called out TJ Dillashaw for a No. 1 contender fight at 135lbs.

TJ Dillashaw "would like to fight Jose Aldo" but wants UFC bantamweight title shot first

Adam D Martin - August 18, 2021

TJ Dillashaw “would like to fight Jose Aldo” but wants the former champion wants a crack at the UFC bantamweight title shot first. Dillashaw recently made his return to the Octagon after over two years away, and he defeated Cory Sandhagen via split decision to once again emerge as a top contender for the 135lbs title. The next bantamweight title fight takes place at UFC 267 in October when Aljamain Sterling defends his belts against Petr Yan in a rematch, and Dillashaw is hoping that he gets to fight the winner of that title match. However, the former featherweight champ Aldo called out Dillashaw after his latest win over Pedro Munhoz, and now fans are excited about the prospect of two former UFC champions going at it down at 135lbs.

Jose Aldo focused on becoming UFC champion again, not interested in fighting YouTubers in boxing

Adam D Martin - August 13, 2021

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo says he is focused on becoming a UFC champion again, not in fighting YouTubers in boxing. Aldo — one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time — has always openly embraced the idea of taking his skills to the boxing ring, but that hasn’t happened at this point. After a three-fight losing skid in 2019 to 2020 that left some feeling like Aldo was on the downside of his career, “Junior” has rebounded since then with back-to-back wins over Marlon Vera and Pedro Munhoz. After winning his last two fights over top contenders at 135lbs, Aldo believes that he still has what it takes to make a run for the UFC bantamweight title.

Jose Aldo vs. TJ Dillashaw bantamweight "clash of former champions would be monumental," says coach

Adam D Martin - August 11, 2021

A potential Jose Aldo vs. TJ Dillashaw bantamweight “clash of former champions would be monumental,” says Aldo’s coach, Andre Pederneiras. Aldo defeated Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 265, while Dillashaw is coming off of a split decision win over Cory Sandhagen last month. As soon as Aldo defeated Munhoz, the one name that he had in mind was Dillashaw. Both Aldo and Dillashaw are former UFC champions and, with both men ranked in the top-five of the UFC bantamweight division in 2021, this could be a potential No. 1 contender matchup.

Adam D Martin - August 8, 2021

UFC bantamweight star Jose Aldo released a statement following his victory over his opponent, the “very tough guy” Pedro Munhoz, at UFC 265. Aldo won a unanimous decision over Munhoz in the co-main event of the UFC 265 pay-per-view. The Brazilian was able to outstrike his fellow countryman for the majority of the three rounds and take home a clear verdict on the judges’ scorecards. For Aldo, it was his second straight win after defeating Marlon Vera by decision in his last fight. He has won two straight fights now after having lost three straight fights. Despite being 34 years old and about to turn 35, Aldo seems to actually be improving and getting better as a fighter.

Conor McGregor praises “real legend” Jose Aldo following his win at UFC 265

Adam D Martin - August 8, 2021

UFC superstar Conor McGregor praised his former rival, the “real legend” Jose Aldo, following his big win over Pedro Munhoz at UFC 265. McGregor and Aldo previously met at UFC 194 in December 2015, with the Irishman knocking the Brazilian out in the first round to become the new UFC featherweight champion. While there were many fans who thought that Aldo might be on the decline after McGregor sparked him, it’s now over five years later and yet Aldo is still winning fights. Not only is he still getting his hand raised, but he’s doing it at a different weight class, having committed himself to the UFC’s 135lbs division for the last two years. Considering Aldo has been in the UFC for over a decade, what he is doing is quite unparalleled in many ways.
