At UFC 200, Jose Aldo claimed the interim featherweight championship as he defeated Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision on the main card of the historic event. While Aldo’s win was an extremely impressive one, the former featherweight kingpin drew criticism when he claimed that he had a spy in Frankie Edgar’s locker room who revealed the gameplan Edgar’s team had put together.

Jose Aldo contemplates Conor McGregor never returning to featherweight

Since Conor McGregor captured the featherweight championship back in December from Jose Aldo, there has been much speculation as to when, or if, he would return to the featherweight division to defend his belt. Following the win, McGregor quickly signed to fight Rafael dos Anjos in a lightweight title fight at UFC 196. Unfortunately, dos Anjos broke his foot and was replaced by Nate Diaz. The bout was moved to welterweight, and Diaz ultimately won the fight via 2nd round submission.

Current UFC interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo claims he had some assistance with his game plan going up against former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. According to MMA Fighting, with the UFC usually separating fighters in two separate groups at the hotel during fight week, Aldo looked at the roster to see who he could get some information from on his opponent.

Tuesday morning the MMA world was caught off guard as rumors began surfacing that former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo had injured himself in training, and would be unable to compete in his scheduled UFC 200 matchup against Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight championship on July 9th. Following the rumors, updates then began emerging that Aldo was uninjured, and actually in the middle of a sparring session when the rumors emerged.

Tuesday morning the MMA world was quickly thrown into a panic as a rumor emerged that former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo had injured himself in training and would be unable to fight in his scheduled UFC 200 bout against Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight championship. Given that there had been no official comment from Aldo or his camp regarding the situation, there was much speculation as to whether or not the rumor was true.
