Alistair Overeem calls for Jairzinho Rozenstruik rematch: "This one needs to be run back"

UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem continued to call for a rematch against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, saying the two need to run it back. Overeem and Rozenstruik met in the main event of UFC Washington, D.C. in December 2019. Overeem won the first four rounds of the fight and was on his way to winning a unanimous decision until Rozenstruik landed a massive punch with seconds left to go in the contest. Referee Dan Miragliotta saw the damage the punch did to Overeem’s lip and decided to step in and wave off the contest even though Overeem was still conscious.

UFC heavyweight legend Minotauro Nogueira praised his friend Anderson Silva, comparing what he did in MMA to Michael Jordan in basketball. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, better known as “Big Nog” or Minotauro, was one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and a legend in PRIDE and in the UFC. One of his best friends in the sport is Silva, who announced this past weekend following his TKO loss to Uriah Hall that he had fought his final UFC bout. Nogueira himself retired in 2015 at age 39. Like Silva, Nogueira was pushed to retire by UFC president Dana White following a losing skid.

Fan favorite welterweight “Platinum” Mike Perry has a new opponent for UFC 255, which goes down on November 21 in Las Vegas. Perry was originally expected to take on former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler on the card. Unfortunately, Lawler was forced out of the fight, leaving Perry in need of a new opponent.

Undisputed UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has reacted to the latest wins from Uriah Hall and Kevin Holland. Hall and Holland both competed on last weekend’s UFC Vegas 12 card. Hall defeated retiring MMA legend Anderson Silva by fourth-round knockout in the main event, while Holland picked up a violent stoppage win over short-notice replacement opponent Charlie Ontiveros.

UFC women’s bantamweight contender Aspen Ladd is hoping the promotion can match her up against Julianna Pena or Raquel Pennington next. Ladd was supposed to fight Pena earlier this year but her opponent was forced to withdraw from the contest. Ladd was then booked to fight veteran Sara McMann, but this time it was Ladd who had to withdraw due to a severe knee injury. Ladd is now recovering from her injuries and she hopes to make a full recovery so she can return to the Octagon in 2021.

UFC light heavyweight Khalil Rountree announced a contract extension with the world’s leading MMA promotion and he hopes to return in 2021. After missing the entirety of 2020, Rountree is now ready to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon. Taking to his Instagram, Rountree announced a contract extension with the UFC, while also promising his fans “the most exciting fights you’ve seen from me yet.”

UFC superstar Conor McGregor says that he is “interested in running it back” with former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. McGregor and Holloway fought back at UFC Fight Night 26 in August 2013 when both fighters were relatively new to the UFC. Although he was injured during the fight, McGregor was able to take Holloway down and control him on the mat for a rare grappling-based victory. UFC superstar Conor McGregor called Nate Diaz the toughest fighter he has ever fought against and said he anticipates a trilogy match. McGregor and Diaz previously fought twice in a pair of blockbuster fights in 2016. In March of that year, Diaz earned a massive upset win when he submitted McGregor on short notice at UFC 196. The two rivals ran it back at UFC 202 in August, and this time McGregor got the better of Diaz as he won a majority decision in a war. A trilogy fight between the two has always made sense, but up until now, the UFC has chosen not to pursue that fight.

The opening betting odds were released for the upcoming UFC light heavyweight title fight between champion Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya. UFC president Dana White made the announcement following UFC Vegas 12 that Adesanya will move up to 205lbs in order to challenge Blachowicz for a second belt. Adesanya, the UFC middleweight champion, has expressed interest in the past about moving up in weight. He will now do so sometime in 2021 when he takes on Blachowicz, who will be making his first title defense since winning the vacant title over Dominick Reyes by TKO at UFC 253.
