Eddie Alvarez DQ loss in ONE Championship overturned to No Contest

Adam D Martin - April 26, 2021

ONE Championship lightweight contender Eddie Alvarez has seen his recent DQ loss against Iuri Lapicus overturned into a No Contest instead. At ONE on TNT 1 earlier this month, Alvarez hit Lapicus with several strikes while he was on the ground, with a few of them hitting the back of the head according to the referee in the cage. That led to the red stopping the fight and handing Alvarez a red card when his opponent couldn’t continue. It was a crazy way for the fight to end and it didn’t sit right with a lot of fans as Alvarez was dominating the fight up until the point that the ref called a stop to the bout and declared Alvarez the loser via DQ.

Watch Joe Rogan and company react to the violent finishes from Saturday’s UFC 261 event

Adam D Martin - April 26, 2021

UFC commentator Joe Rogan had some amazing reactions to some of the crazy things we saw take place this past Saturday night at UFC 261. Rogan, along with former UFC champion Daniel Cormier and veteran play-by-play man Jon Anik, were in the same booth with each other for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and the hilarities that ensued were fun to watch. The three veteran commentators enjoyed the heck out of UFC 261, and who can blame them? It was an absolutely exceptional card that featured a number of insane endings to fights, and Rogan clearly had a lot of fun watching it. Check out some of Rogan’s best reactions below.

Rose Namajunas credits former UFC rival Joanna Jedrzejczyk for supplying blueprint on how to beat Zhang Weili

Harry Kettle - April 26, 2021

Rose Namajunas has credited Joanna Jędrzejczyk for giving her the blueprint on the right way to approach a fight against Zhang Weili. “Thug Rose” went into her title fight at the weekend knowing that many viewed her as the underdog – but coming out of it, she was the one who had her hand raised as she recaptured the UFC strawweight title.

Conor McGregor impersonator handed three year jail sentence for drug trafficking

Harry Kettle - April 26, 2021

A drug dealer impersonating Conor McGregor has been handed a three-year jail sentence in relation to drug trafficking charges. Mark Nye, a 34-year-old man from Surrey, was pulled over by police after being caught in possession of Class A drugs in addition to two phones that proved his crimes. When he was pulled over, the police were told his name was “Conor”, before finding business cards that said “McGregor Enterprise” on the front.

Kamaru Usman responds after Conor McGregor insinuates he is taking steroids: "I already took your pride. Don’t make me take your whiskey too."

Christopher Taylor - April 25, 2021

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has responded after Conor McGregor shared multiple posts suggesting ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was on steroids. Usman (19-1 MMA) returned to the Octagon in the headliner of last night’s UFC 261 pay-per-view event where he scored a sensational second round knockout victory over Jorge Masvidal.

Robert Whittaker issues hilarious response when asked if he hopes Israel Adesanya will beat Marvin Vettori in UFC 263 rematch

Chris Taylor - April 25, 2021

Robert Whittaker gave a hilarious response when asked if hoped Israel Adesanya would beat Marvin Vettori in their scheduled rematch at UFC 263. After Whittaker (23-5 MMA) scored a dominant victory over Kelvin Gastelum last weekend, which extended his current winning streak to three in a row, many fans expected that a rematch with reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya would be next for the Aussie.

Chris Taylor - April 25, 2021

Jon Jones took to social media on Sunday evening where he praised Jake Paul for his recent knockout victory over Ben Askren and subsequent financial gains. Paul (3-0), a YouTuber turned boxer, has seemingly taken the combat sports world by storm in recent months. After knocking out former NBA star Nate Robinson in 2020, Jake Paul took a step up in competition earlier this month when he squared off with former MMA champion Ben Askren.

Robert Whittaker explains why it was impossible for him to accept a rematch with Israel Adesanya at UFC 263

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

Robert Whittaker explained why it was impossible for him to accept a rematch with UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 263. Whittaker defeated Kelvin Gastelum at last weekend’s UFC Vegas 24 event to improve to 3-0 since losing his belt to Adesanya at UFC 243. The Aussie was widely expected to be next in line to fight for the title, but the UFC did an about-face this week and gave Marvin Vettori the title shot instead. That decision led to a lot of chatter amongst fight fans, who believed that Whittaker should have been the next man in line. But according to Whittaker, he actually was offered the fight, only the conditions made the fight impossible to take.

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

Marivi Weidman shared a health update of her husband Chris Weidman following his broken leg injury TKO loss to Uriah Hall at UFC 261. Weidman suffered one of the most horrific injuries we have ever seen in UFC history when he broke his leg on a checked leg kick against Hall seconds into their fight at UFC 261. Immediately after throwing the kick, Weidman’s leg snapped in half and viewers had to witness one of the most gruesome injuries we have ever seen in the Octagon.

Jake Paul sends a message to Dana White: "Why are UFC fighters so underpaid vs. boxers?"

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul sent a message to UFC president Dana White, suggesting that the UFC doesn’t pay its fighters enough money. Paul stopped Ben Askren last weekend at the Triller Fight Club boxing event in a fight that UFC president Dana White reportedly bet against Paul winning. Since Askren was stopped, White has criticized Paul, saying that while he credits him for making money off of boxing, he doesn’t believe he’s a real fighter and has no interest in having him fight in the UFC.

Justin Gaethje to Conor McGregor: "Kamaru Usman will f*cking kill you"

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje sent a message to Conor McGregor, telling the superstar that Kamaru Usman would beat him in a fight. On Saturday night at UFC 261, Usman earned another successful title defense when he knocked out rival Jorge Masvidal in the second round of their welterweight title fight. It was an amazing win by Usman and proved once again that he’s the top dog in the UFC at 170lbs. The day after the fight, McGregor took to his social media to say that he wants to go up to welterweight later this year after winning the lightweight belt. McGregor has called out Usman in the past and it’s no surprise to see him the Irishman doing so once again.

Rose Namajunas releases statement following head kick KO win over Weili Zhang at UFC 261

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas issued a statement following her head kick KO win over Weili Zhang at UFC 261. Namajunas entered the UFC 261 co-main event as a considerable betting underdog, but she showed that the odds were wrong and she was being overlooked with a brutal head kick KO just over a minute into the fight. For Namajunas, it was a successful opportunity to win back the women’s 115lbs belt that she lost to Jessica Andrade in Brazil two years ago by taking out Zhang and snapping her 20-fight win streak. It was an incredible upset on a night that saw a number of underdogs walk away with the win in Jacksonville, Florida.

Betting odds released for rematch between Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori at UFC 263

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

The betting odds have been released for the rematch between UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and rival Marvin Vettori at UFC 263. Adesanya and Vettori first met in 2018 with Adesanya winning a split decision in what was one of his toughest fights at middleweight during his UFC career. After a failed attempt at moving up in weight and taking on UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz last month, Adesanya will return back to 185lbs for his next title defense against Vettori. Although we thought that former champion Robert Whittaker would have been next in line to fight Adesanya in a rematch between the two rivals, the UFC decided to go with Vettori instead because the promotion has a date to fill on June 12 and Whittaker couldn’t take it.

Anthony Smith issues statement following injury TKO win over Jimmy Crute at UFC 261

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith issued a statement following his injury TKO win over Jimmy Crute at UFC 261. Smith came into the fight with Crute as a sizeable underdog at the sportsbooks, and the fight appeared to have the makings of a competitive bout through the first five minutes. Unfortuantely for Crute, he suffered a leg injury during the fight that led to the doctor stopping the bout at the end of the first round. It was a terrible way for the fight to end, and unfortunately it was not the only injury TKO on the card as Chris Weidman suffered a broken leg against Uriah Hall in the very next fight. It was just one of those nights.

Dustin Poirier suggests Conor McGregor trilogy take place at 170lbs

Adam Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier suggested that his trilogy fight against Conor McGregor at UFC 264 be contested at welterweight. Poirier and McGregor have fought twice in the past. The first time these two met was at UFC 178 in September 2014, and McGregor won that fight via first-round knockout at 145lbs. The two rivals then rematched in January 2021 at UFC 257, and this time Poirier won the fight by knockout in a lightweight bout. The two are now scheduled to meet at UFC 264 on July 10 in what is likely a No. 1 contender bout in the UFC lightweight division. However, it appears as though there’s a chance this fight could take place at 170 instead.

Uriah Hall reacts to beating Chris Weidman via injury TKO: "I just wish him and his family well”

Adam D Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC middleweight Uriah Hall reacted to beating Chris Weidman via injury TKO, saying that “I just wish him and his family well.” The first kick that Weidman threw on Hall saw him break his leg in one of the most grusome injury TKOs we have ever seen in MMA. It was a nasty injury and very reminiscent of Anderson Silva’s leg break over Weidman in 2013. For both Hall and Weidman, it was a terrible situation to be involved in. With Weidman, his career could be in jeopardy now following such a severe injury, while for Hall it’s a bizarre way for him to avenge his loss to Weidman from 2010. It was an unfortunate way the fight ended.

Leon Edwards scolds Jorge Masvidal over knockout loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 261

Adam D Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards scolded Jorge Masvidal over his knockout loss to Kamaru Usman at Saturday night’s UFC 261 event. Edwards and Masvidal got into a backstage skirmish a few years ago at UFC London, which is where the legendary “three piece and a soda” line came from. The two welterweight contenders have continued to talk trash to each other on social media and in interviews over the last couple of years, but up to this point they haven’t had the chance to settle their differences in the Octagon. It’s possible that could happen in the near futurue.

Conor McGregor vows to return to welterweight after reclaiming 155lbs title: “Then I’ll go up again. After green fungus panties.”

Adam D Martin - April 25, 2021

UFC superstar Conor McGregor vowed to return back up to the UFC welterweight division after recapturing the promotion’s lightweight belt. McGregor has competed three times at welterweight in the UFC, defeating Donald Cerrone and Nate Diaz at welterweight while also suffering a loss to Diaz in the weight class. Most of his career has been spent fighting at featherweight and at lightweight. In his last fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, McGregor returned to 155lbs and suffered a second-round knockout loss. He will return to lightweight this summer for the Poirier trilogy fight.
